I'd do it.  As long as you are fairly stable transplant wise and are not under active immediate monitoring for it.  I don't think you have much to worry about bathing wise - you are long past the healing wound phase?  Use bottled water for brushing teeth etc...

If you are worried about food sanitation pretend you are kosher and bringing most of your food in the form of energy bars, shelf stable and camping food, drinks should be ok since those are mass produced.  That practiced with normal basic food safety eating out and you should be fairly good.  Usually you know when you are eating risky things, i.e. buffets with cold food that is warm and hot food that is not hot.

It took about 1.5 years until my nephrologist told me he feels I can eat anything, but he still doesn't like filter feeders like oysters and mussels as those are just nasty in his eyes, and lots of healthy people get sick from them.
I'm still under active monitoring for rejection and infectious disease levels but hopefully, by next year, it won't be an issue. Who knows though... I've got a lot of time to research and make connections with relevant people in the area for information.

Since where we'd be working is akin to the level of a third world country, I'd be worried about basic things like how food is prepared. Like, food prepared outside with questionably washed utensils and while people of the region go out of their way to treat guests as best as possible, it's a little verboten to tell them how to prepare food. Just telling them I'm vegetarian while horse meat is their staple isn't expected to go over well!  :rofl;

As for bathing, I know a guy that went backpacking in the region (not the area we'd be in.. but quality of life is similar). Healthy as a horse. He got cholera from bathing from the smallest of cuts in his leg.

I'm glad you are going.  Hopefully this will give you the confidence to go a little further.  I don't believe dialysis should be a hindrance to travel.  I'm kinda trying to make a career out of that belief.  ;D

Take a good set of binoculars, a camera and a lot of selfies! Always good to "document" when you've had a good time. When I travel I like to get postcards in case my camera screws up. Gourmet dining?? I'd have to study some of the menus online beforehand so I'd have more time for eating than reading! lol  And I'd probably have to learn a little French. Did I hear someone say "pastries??" lol  Have fun! Hope you report back about how it went. Until then, enjoy getting busy with making your plans.

Husband had ESRD with Type I Diabetes -Insulin Dependent.
I was his care-partner for home hemodialysis using Nxstage December 2013-July 2016.
He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.

I am very "inexperienced" when it comes to gourmet food (meaning too cheap and not very worldly). lol  But, there are some things on that menu that I recognize and of course, would be game to try ANY of it. Would be so much fun to dine at that hotel. I ventured over to it online and did a little daydreaming. And oh, I love the little history lesson the menu gives. You are going to have so much fun! Whatta a vacation this would be!

Well due to dialysis my travel options are limited,this destination is a 6 hour drive from Montreal so its doable , i'm not a great photographer but i'll try to post a few pics when i get back, thinking of going first week in October.
