:rant;  I am so grumpy I can't believe myself.  And I'm not my alter ego stoned at Disneyland Grumpy either.  I have been on a Keto diet for a week.  It's 20 carbs or less a day with lots of fat and moderate protein.  Yesterday I had a CAT SCAN to measure the glucose in my blood to identify how far and fast the cancer has spread.  The idea has been to stop and starve the cancer that feeds on carbs.  Cancer also feeds on an amino acid but green tea is supposed to mitigate that problem.  I must still be radioactive from the scan I got yesterday.  I am biting my fingernails (figuratively) as I wait for test results.  My stubborn skin cancer doesn't seem to want to go away.  I took my monthly blood test this morning and I'm afraid my phosphorus numbers will spike.  I did my 12 hours of dialysis last night and another drain and fill this morning before I took the test.  Hopefully that will clean out enough phosphorus so I test within range.  I have zero energy.  I need my iron shot, but my wife is at work.   After work she has to change the dressing on her friend with cancer before she comes home.  I am dying for a plate of lasagna with sweet tomato sauce.  To make matters worse my beloved Dodgers lost last night.  They played horrible baseball.  Has anyone out there ever gone through a low carb diet before?  Did you feel like this?

I was very low carb for a couple of years. I got used to it and felt good.

Did you do it to lose weight?  I hear most people can lose a lot on it.  I ate some broccoli with salad oil (low carb) this afternoon, and that seemed to help.  I also liked bacon grease on kale.

I hardly EVER lose weight, even when I'm trying.  I did it to regulate my blood sugar and it did that.

Sorry, but "grumpiness" is a side effect of low sugar, and for keto to work, your sugar levels have to be dangerously low. You are going to have to get used to it as the new norm. You may also experience some depression. Just keep thinking of the good it is doing you and "grin and bear it".

Low carb is challenging but definitely doable. Try not to dwell on the "can't haves" and think about everything else you CAN have. Have you ever used eggplant slices or zucchini to make lasagna? It works rather well and tastes even better. Good luck!
