That Chinese Curse Is Still Biting Me In The Ass.

That "may all your wishes come true" curse hit me again today. The thaw I wished for caused a pumping station to explode (not sure how, that is all the info the water company gave us). This happened a couple of hours before my dialysis, so when I arrived the place had no water, the previous session had been ended early, and the staff were running round trying to find out what to do with the rest of us.

Eventually the water company turned up with a tanker full of water for them to use in the short term and we got on the machines a little over two hours late and had a shorter than usual dialysis. This meant they were unable to take off all I have drunk over the last  two days, and as we are going into the weekend I'll be even further overloaded by Monday. I'll probably need an extra session. **** it.

Although I do have to say I was impressed with the speed the water company got hold of a tanker full of drinking water and delivered it to the clinic, only a few hours after the explosion. And the clinic had a selection of alternative plan Bs ready for such an emergency (while waiting to see what the water company were doing they were ringing round other clinics looking for spare slots, and contacting staff to see who could work Sunday if that became necessary).

And I was unimpressed with a few patients who were complete assholes over the matter. A few blamed the clinic staff for the problems, basically demanding that they "got" some water from somewhere and started dialysis immediately.

Any news on your home situation?

At the moment I am still trying to dry out my stuff, and the room. The only suitable heating for drying stuff is one low heat radiator in the hall of the building, so I am pulling stuff out and piling it on and around that radiator, then when dry changing the dry stuff for more wet stuff. I also have a dehumidifier running in the room 24/7.

The council are sending a social worker round to see me on Tuesday (assuming they don't decide Tuesday is the day for my extra dialysis session). However from the conversation I had on the 'phone when they arranged the visit, the main focus appears to be "poor pathetic old man cannot care for himself", and if this is the case the visit may become confrontational.

Some body at the water company deserves a big 'Thank You'!  It's not often that you find an employee that takes the initiative to actually do something that helps others as much as this did.

Unfortunately we often have those few people that will loudly try to lay blame on anyone and everyone around them.  Stuff happens.  All we can do is deal with it the best we can.

It sounds to me like you have good staff members at your clinic.  Be Thankful for that.

Ohh I think they probably did in for their own self interest. There have been a lot of complaints about how the water companies work over the past few years, and the calls to re-nationalize the industry and take the companies away from their shareholders are growing. Some parts of the government are listening, so the various water companies are trying to look good to prevent loosing ownership of their companies.

It never ceases to amaze me the ability of some patients to blame whatever on the clinic staff. Like if they gained five kilos between treatments, it is the fault of the staff, even when there was only ONE day between.
