Is it normal to have much leakage from the newly placed PD catheter exit site?

Placement surgery was Tues & I woke up Friday with my PJ shorts soaking wet around waistband. Saw surgeon & they said no infection, everything is OK but they'd never seen that much of a leak. PD center unit nurse is worried I'll get peritonitis before we can even start dialysis!

I haven't been to class or done an exchange or had any dialysate yet so I'm assuming this pink fluid is coming from healing going on in my abdomen.

Has this happened to anyone else? How long can I expect this to last? Suggestions?

I have noticed activity makes leaking worse (putting leash on dog's collar at vet's for example, or leaning slightly to one side to pick up a glass of water...

I wish I could give you an answer or advice, but I can't.
But I'm sure someone will soon. Just wanted you to know you are not alone, and wishing you all the best.

As a lay (looooong time ago PD) person : do you have a drain near the site? If not, it is probably wound fluid.

Lots of love, Cas

No drain, just the exit site opening where catheter comes out of my body & a few 1 inch incisions & 1 small hole where laprascopic instruments were inserted that are sealed with glue I'm told will eventually dissolve.

一一I didn’t have this problem.  It is supposed be dry all the time. Your surgeon needs to correct it. It should be simple.

Wish you the best.

My mum had this problem, and her site never really healed.... There was always a 'gungy' substance on her dressing when I did it's daily dressing change.... It eventually got really badly infected, and had to be removed and re-sited after the wound healed....

My advice would be to get in touch with your unit, and seek advice....

The very best of luck....
