Is Rent Considered "Income"?

I asked this in the chat room last night and called Social Security today.
I may rent out my house and move. But, the rent I receive would be put into rent up in Spokane. So, I asked the question to Social Security. Is rent considered income or the sales of a home? They said
no
. Disability only looks at Wages not investments.
Now if you are receiving SSI then that is a different story.
So, bottomline. I can rent out my house and not screw up my disability income.
I called a second time to ask the same question to a different Social Security employee (I don't trust anyone) and I got the same answer. I couldn't find it in writing. (Maybe Karol can)

I am not an authority on this but my intelligent guess is that it would not be since 1) the sale of your home is just a one time thing 2)If you rent it out, it is not always steady since tenants can move out any day and you would be losing money if no one is there as long as you are the legal owner of that house...I hope this makes sense to you......

depends on age of person on ssdi.
I've 50, profits documented are considered income and taxable if reported, there is a income cap depending on which ssi plan you are on.
Then there is the spend down ssi program.

I think its income if you get SSI but not if you get SSD-there is a big difference in the two types.
