I have the worst news. I heard from his sister today that Zach passed away on Sunday. Zach was able to share laughs and memories with family up until he succumbed.  I will pass on more information as far as service/memorial info if I hear any.

Zach was a good one, he gave this F--king kidney disease a hell of a fight. Good on ya Zach, rest in peace.

I'm sure his work on a documentary about orphaned kids helped them. Zach's work left the world a better place for some. May God bless and keep his friends and family.

Zach, a real gentleman. Left too soon. He was amazingly generous with his time and experience. May he find peace.

For a man who gave so much, he will surely be missed, the light he cast in the dismal world of ESRD still shines and as long as this site lives Zach kindness, and guidance will live on.  From Epoman through Zach the many wonderful people who built and contribute to this site have provided a beacon of hope and knowledge and a sense of community that helps all in the Battle with ESRD. I know I would not have done so well with dialysis without this place and Zach contributed greatly to the experience i had on this site.  I hope he got the special place in heaven he so richly deserved.

I rarely read this forum anymore (my daughter is post-transplant and doing well) and I saw the news about Zach on the facebook page. So sorry to hear it. He was a big inspiration and source of hope for me, reading about his work and life on dialysis, and seeing his optimism and sense of humor. There aren't many like him, and he'll be missed.

I've no words.   Only sadness.   This came far too soon.  Zach still had so much to contribute to this World.

Alas, It is not our will, but His will be done.

Bless you Zach, you are now with our Maker.

It makes me very sad and I am shocked to read this about Zach and he will continue to be my great inspiration in how to survive dialysis-treatments as best as is possible with good humour, a good diet and by continued studying about the ingredients/vitamins/potassium etc. in each food, vegetable meal, fruit etc. and ... how to continue life as best as is possible despite kidney failure and the onset of needing dialysis-treatments. Zach certainly continues to be a great inspiration to me.
RIP Zach and many thanks for being such a great inspiration and assistance on IHD.
I shall miss you a lot,

Okarol, thanks for posting those photos!

I've been thinking about Zach all day; I can't get it out of my mind.  I'm sorely distressed.

I am so sad to read about this. I first "met" Zach in 2006, not long after this site was created. He was definitely inspiring and I remember when he finally made the decision to get on the transplant list. He not only lived while on dialysis; he thrived. The world will miss you Zach. :'(

For those who may not be familiar with Zach, you can go to his profile here and then click on "Show Posts" to get to know him.
http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=283
Zach did in-center hemodialysis for 34 years and joined IHD in August 2006.
He is "famous" here for Zach's Chunky Chili recipe, renal friendly, of course. http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=11916.0

Some people seem like they will live forever. I thought that of Zach.
