Other causes of high phosphorus

I had been doing so well, but BAM...phosphorus levels jumped to 9.1.

Still taking my binders - Renvela 3 with each meal. Still watching my diet. My pth is good. What are the other causes (if any) that I'm missing. My nurse is not helpful - she's convinced I'm not taking any binders.

3 Renvela/meal stopped working for me and I have added in Velphoro (plus Renvela) which did help.  But then, that stopped too.   I think there are a lot of unpredictable things with phosph.  3 Renvela might just not be enough.  I'm now taking 2-3 Velphoro plus 2-3 Renvela per meal.  I'll soon know if that's good enough.  Good luck.

Well... at least it's not just me. I am getting concerned that pd isn't working as well anymore.

Maybe your program needs to be tweaked.  And at least you are looking at a TX pretty soon, so that should save your bones if PD doesn't.

My phosphorus jumped up to 7 this month (was running high normal) and my PTH jumped from 300 to 1200!  Only difference I can think of is that they lowered my Calcitriol.  I'm taking my binders, diet hasn't increased in phosphorus...

See... my "genius" nurse was late ordering my calcitrol refill and the week before labs I was out. She insisted it wouldn't have impacted my phosphorus... I disagree. I have the refill now. I hope that's the culprit.

She never gives me my full lab numbers over the phone.... I have to wait to get them mailed, so I have no clue what all my other results are.

Seriously, I have a great nephrologist but horrible direct care nurse.

Does your medical center offer access to your records online?  Mine has something called "myhealthonline" and I can log in and see upcoming appointments and test results.  My clinic appointment isn't until the 27th, but I already know my lab values.  It is quite helpful!

I just had my monthly neph appointment and my phosp, is up to 7.something.   I'm taking a ton of binders and not eating enough protein to even rise beyone 3.7 albumen.   Today, my neph. declared me underdialyzed as my BUN was also up.  I'm being put on sensipar (my pth is OK) and then they are adding addtional exchange to my routine.  Now I am on 5 cycles of 1.5 hour dwells.  Soon it will go to 4 exhchanges of 2 hours each.  She's hoping that will increase the large solute clearance.  Don't know if this alsoapplies to you, Fabkiwi.

I've been on Sensipar 90mg for a few months now. Currently I'm at 5 cycles with 2 hour dwells. Adding more time to my cycle is not ideal.

I'm hoping it's because I was without the Calcitrol the week before my labs. I have it now, and I'll be extra careful with food and hopefully it'll change.

I had trouble with my numbers going up and it took me increasing my pills to 5 or 6 with meals.  Part of my problem was I would drink something and not take any binders.  I would drink a dr. pepper every once in a while.  When I brought this up at a Drs apt they said that one Dr Pepper was like a whole meal.  Once I really started to take my binders all the time my numbers are back to normal.  The day before my last labs I had a craving for French fries and did not have any binders with me at the time.  I was a little worried at the time but my phosphors came in at 4.9.  Here is a web site I found for looking up phosphors nutritiondata.self.  It has all the information you need about different foods.  They even list fast food.
