In a little bit of good news for all those who love chocolate - it may help improve cardiovascular health in those with poor kidney function courtesy of some German research. I eat chocolate regularly & so far so good with my phosphate lab levels. Does anyone else indulge as well?

This result of this study still needs further verification. Such result needs to coincide with the succeeding studies regarding chocolates. Just be careful.

Thanks LivingWater for your reply. Caution is always advised when reading about any smaller studies relating to any aspect of kidney disease.

My guess is that chocolate is not good based on your labs.  High Phosphorous readings in lab work then  Chocolate Bad for you.  Normal resulta a little chocolate probably ok.  If your readings are low chocolate is good for you in a reasonable amount.

I have been on a pretty strict renal diet and only now with GFR 11 have my phosphate levels begun to rise.

Sayonara chocolate.
