Hey I was curious if anybody else notices that they belch more since being on dialysis. I seem to belch quite frequently and I was wondering if this is a side effect of dialysis. Thanks everybody.

I noticed I do a lot of belching when I have a full tummy from dialysis (pd), and also eat as well. Sometimes I gotta do it, it's all a matter of having time, or lack thereof. Also, if I have a full tummy and bend over, or bend my torso belches, or worse (farts!)
ensue. Ugh. Very embarrassing.

I could see how pd might do that. I'm on hemodialysis so I wonder if it would cause belching at all.

When I get off the machine, sometimes I burp a couple of times.

Usually after I eat and take my phosphate binder. I thought it was a side effect of the binder. These are really loud frat-boy belches. I'm very entertaining these days.

Well since we are on the topic of gas... has anyone noticed while you are hooked up on dialysis you fart more? I can let some big farts go in the center.   Huwhee! I am suprised they have not kicked me out of there yet!.

I fart the whole time I am on dialysis.  I used to try and hold it in but i would get a stomach ache and basically blow up the elevator when i left.  As soon as i stand up after dialysis i do a few good belches and then i feel okay.  Of course, then there are the sulfur burps but they are a different story.  Basically, with dialysis, i am sure i could power a small village with natural gas.

Now if you could bottle it all up and use is an alternative fuel source, you would be rich$$$$$$$  :thumbup; it would be less than $3 per gallon.

For those of you with this problem, have you found taking sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to work? I take my sodium bicarb now, but have not been taking it every day (like I'm supposed to, okay I confess). But now I'm thinking I need to take it every day.

and P.S.  I searched all over the Internet and this is the first place I have found real discussion re belching on dialysis. I didn't start belching much until AFTER I started on PD.
