Visited an estate planning attorney.  He told my wife and I:

"I do two things.  I minimize the taxes you kid has to pay when you die, and I protect you from nursing home costs".   He then looked at me and said "In your case we don't have to worry about nursing home costs since you'll be dead well before then".

Actually, I liked his direct approach.

No tact.  I may outlive him just to prove I could. (Hopefully)

If he'd have said 'may die before then' I could have agreed.

I would like to point out over half the people on my shift are over 80 and some in their early 90's.

Yes, but how many of them started dialysis in their 50's?

Simon, it's good that you can see the funny side of things like these. If he's good at what he does, it might pay to keep him. People can be told to keep certain comments to themselves. If he doesn't get that, chances are he might not get a lot of other things.

What was going through my mind was "What Would Bob P Say?".

I actually thought it was kind of funny.   I don't ask people to hold comments to themselves - it makes it harder to understand them.

I minimize the taxes you kid has to pay when you die, ......

I want to find the guy who can tell me  ..."I will make it so you and your wife run out of money on the day the last one of you dies!"

Trivial, but not always the best deal - spend all your money on a dual life annuity.

An attorney told me the same thing. I retained him.
