Blood pressure over 200. Should I take my mom to the ER? Please reply quick

Hi,

My mom's blood pressure is over 200 right now and we gave her blood pressure medications. She has more fluid in her body than usual as they were not able to pull fluids off during the dialysis sessions last week. Is the high BP due to fluids retaining in the body? Pls advice soon.

Yep we are at the ER right now. Called 911 right after I posted the question. I'm very worried. What's going on? When the paramedics came and checked her BP, gosh it was 247. One of our family members quarreled with her yesterday for no reason. I've decided not to let that lady into the house anymore. Since then, she was stressed and her BP stayed at around 170. But tonight, it spiked high. Does anyone think her high BP's are due to the stress caused by the stupid family member or anything else? Thanks everybody.

and hopefully doctors have diagnosed the cause of it ?
It would not surprise me, if this sudden rise in bloodpressure is a reaction to a new medication?
I have noticed, that my bloodpressure always raises instantly, whenever my body reacts allergic
to one or another new medication being introduced. Worth looking into.

We just came back home. They gave her nitro to bring down the blood pressure and they found a urinary tract infection. They prescribed antibiotics for the UTI and sent us back home. They are not sure of the cause of the high BP, but they think it could either be from the UTI or too much fluid retaining in her body. Does it sound right? Thanks.

That sounds plausible to me. What's her BP now? And are YOU having a bit of a nice drink, and some rest now?

The cause is most likely extra fluid. Stress can raise your blood pressure but not usually by that much. The hospital was the right choice. UTIs aren't fun either. I hope she feels better soon.

The body's normal react to most all types of stress is to raise BP,   that fight or flight thing.  Physical stress, emotional stress, medications, added fluids, ALL conspire to elevate BP.

When BP starts getting that high, and stays there, it is time to seek help.

Banning that disturbing person, treatment of the UTI, and getting that excess water off will all make a big difference.

You did right taking her in for evaluation and treatment.
