10 years on and off dialysis

Anybody been on one of these? How did you find the dialysis services? Did you manage to schedule the dialysis at times to suit yourself?
Am looking at 18 night one in NZ/Australia with Celebrity cruises.
Never been on a cruise and not too fond of boats!!!! :puke; especially in rough sea!

3 years HD 1st transplant Feb 08 failed after 3 months
Back to HD 2nd transplant Dec 10 failed after 11 months
Difficult times with a femoral line and catching MSSA (Thank you Plymouth Hospital)
Back on HD (not easy to do that third time around)
Fighting hard (two years on) to do home HD ... watch this space!
Oh and I am am getting married 1/08/15 to my wonderful partner Drew!!!

I see you do home HD.  Help me remember are you NxStage?

The reason is .. Medicare will not pay for dialysis on the sea.  It is about $1,000 a time on the boat.  They do have dialysis cruises but they are pricey.  So, as long as you could get your supplies on board and it does not have electoral problems you should be good??

When I still had my Transplant I went on a 7 day one and it was wonderful.

No not NX stage at this point, normal haemo at home (Braun machine)
The Dialysis at Sea company are quoting about £300 ($452) a session and I believe we can claim back up to 2 weeks from UK government.
We wanted to tour NZ by car but getting holiday haemo over there is proving damn near impossible that's why we are considering a cruise with dialysis.
It's a shame but they only do home haemo in a lot of the country and not our machine either.

I assume you have looked that Fresenius/nephrocare site?

These days my starting point is to figure out the nephrocare/Fresenius site in the country I'm visiting.  Sadly it looks like NZ only has one center but I see a lot in Australia...

That Dialysis at Sea rate sounds very low, from what I've read its usually $1,000 plus/session.

Transplant July 2017 from out of state deceased donor, waited three weeks the creatine to fall into expected range, dialysis December 2013 - July 2017.

Yes we knew we could get dialysis in Auckland on arrival but nothing beyond that which puts the kibosh on touring North and South islands.
A lot of their units either don't accept foreign patients for holiday dialysis or only do home haemo...

Plus you have to rent you cabin from Dialyis at Sea at the rack rate.

Aye that's very true but otherwise we are limited to one place with dialysis. I prefer to see things, and go on mystery trips etc rather than lie on a beach...
So many restrictions and financial penalties!

Currently Doing Nocturnal Tues-Thurs-Sun 8 hr sessions
Have had 1 live donor Tx in 2002 - 2009
Dry Weight: 71kgs Avg. Take off: 2kgs

We couldn't get a place with dialysis on a NZ cruise until at least 2017!!! so now chnanging plans to maybe 2 weeks in the South of France (Juan les pins, Antibes , Cannes and Avignon) there is an accessible Braun Unit at Antibes that takes holiday patients on EHIC and some nice hotels and trips by boat and land... plus direct flight from London to Nice in less than 2 hours.
Have to be realistic I guess  ???  ???
