Since having my Prograf and Rapamune levels lowered I have been so hungry, and could literally eat 24/7. (One of the side effects of both medicines can be increased-appetite.)

Is there any food that help supress appetite and/or fill you up so your full? Something preferrably NOT unhealthy. I feel like if I continue to feel this way and eat so much like I am, my attempts to lose weight are going to fly out the window.

I'm going to talk to my doctor tomorrow (Wednesday) at transplant clini and let him know of this problem and find out if he would allow me to take any appetite supressant medication, but I doubt it, that's why I ask about the food.

I feel like my workouts everyday are for nothing. :(

Since you can eat now.  :2thumbsup;  Whole grain cereal and low/non fat dairy used to be my mainstay.  Shredded wheat with nonfat milk or Grapenuts, lite yogurt and strawberries will keep you full a long time.   

I so miss my yogurt.   :'(

Don't forget celery to munch on - very filling, very low cal.  I like cucumbers for filling munchies, too.

Frosted mini wheats, dry, as snack food - super filling.  Or whole wheat crackers.

Drink lots of water (Lucky girl!) to keep your stomach full.

A small piece of cheese can do more to hold off cravings than a ton of rice cakes.  Don't underestimate a bit of protein.

Granola - the real stuff, not the cutsey little bars with all the added corn syrup.  Make your own trail mix, with dried fruit.  Dried raisins, cherries, etc. also fill me up.

Thanks for this thread, now that I'm back on all my meds I've been more hungry. I've already gained 3 lbs and I am very concerned because i had just lost 93lbs and I don't want to gain it all back. Great tips thanks.

i like a boiled egg and an apple for a snack-egg is protein to keep you full-and the apple satisfies the need to chew and crunch

Thanks everyone. I need it, cause i'm hungry lots and have been making bad choices. Sluff, i'm so proud of you for losing all that weight no mater how you did it, its gone.. and I know how you feel about gaining it back, so if you come up with any snack ideas too, let me know! Ill do the same. These ideas are great though, I love veggies.

Lost vision due to retinopathy 12/2005, 30 Laser Surg 2006
ESRD diagnosed 12/2006
03/2007 Fantastic Eye Surgeon in ND got my sight back and implanted lenses in both eyes, great distance & low reading.
Gortex 4/07.  Started dialysis in ND 5/4/2007
Gortex clotted off Thanksgiving Week of 2007, was unclotted and promptly clotted off 1/2 hour later so Permacath Rt chest.
3/2008 move to NC to be close to children.
2 Step fistula, 05/08-elevated 06/08, using mid August.
Aug 5, 08, trained NxStage and Home on 9/3/2008.
Fistulagram 09/2008. In hospital 10/30/08, Bowel Obstruction.
Back to RAI-Latrobe In Center. No home hemo at this time.

my problem is eating enough.....dialysis destroys my appetite. I usually have a can of Nepro for breakfast, a snack during dialysis and a decent dinner. My albumin is usually on the low side.

These are suggestions given to me by the nutritionist:

Frigo low fat string cheese is a good source of protein but low in fat.
A cup of baby carrots, raw.
100 calorie packs for a mid day snack
Fruit such as a cup of blueberries or water melon (it's a natural diuretic too)
Radishes or cucumbers (as mentioned I think)
Beef or turkey jerky
A 16 oz bottle of water 3 times a day (one between 9 am and noon, the next by 3 pm and the last by 7 pm)
Sugar free pudding cups with 2 tbsp of fat free cool whip on top

Campbell's has some low sodium soups that only have 140 mg. sodium. Not bad with unsalted crackers and a glass of Dairy Delicious.

I need something to gain an appetite, not suppress it. But reading this thread, if I understand this right, your not suppose to have carrots if you are on dialysis? Not sure if Angela eats grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice since with Prograf we are only suppose to have it at certain times after or before taking prograf or avoid it. I  tried having grapefruit and it made me feel sick, but wonder what it did to my trough level if I had a blood test.

One of my favorite mid-morning snacks these days (remember, post-transplant) is Kashi Mountain Medley granola. It has oats, raisins, dried cranberries, and pecans. Yummy!!

For about a week I kept a bowl of fruit on my desk with oranges, apples, grapes and bananas - I also had pineapple in the refrigerator. The problem was, once I ate it all, I couldn't get motivated to spend all that money at once again, so I didn't keep it up. I was very rarely hungry, though.

Grapefruit should be monitored according to your meds.  Some beta blockers do not do well with grapefruit. Be careful.

The 94% fat-free popcorn. It's very filling. Low in calories, low in fat, and a good source of fiber. It's a whole grain snack.
