Mainly a question for women. Has dialysis effected your love life? I've just noticed an over all muscle weakness ( my bf says esp my pelvic region) my labs seem to be coming back fine except for my phospherous. Can dialysis make all your muscles weak like this? We both seem to have trouble "feeling" I feel so awful over this. Could this be a med issue if not kidney? I'm on 2 new meds birth control to treat PCOS and risperdone  for bipolar disorder. This is making things frustraiting.

Hi. I've been on dialysis for a little over 2 years. This lack of feeling at times is relatively new.

Unfortunatly risperidone is an anti psychotic medicine used also for bipolar disorder. Yes it can block dopamine in the brain which is very important for feelings of pleasure. That may be your problem. That is a tough one if you need it. You can talk to your psychiatrist about this. He/she may be able to help. There are many other mood stabilizing bipolar meds and ways around this.

This is def something you and your BF need to talk to the docs about, your obviously responsible adults who enjoy a bit of fun in the bedroom, so no reason for you to stop. If medications are the cause it might be worth seeing if there's an alternative.

On the physical aspect it might be good to look at exercises that can strengthen the area.

And remember the human body has many areas of pleasure and the brain is the biggest sex organ in both men and women:)

I'll second what obsidianom stated about the effects of rispiradone.

The are a number of newer meds that are at least equally effective and have fewer side effects such as you are experiencing.

Do NOT stop taking your meds until you get an approval for change from your Doctor.  Some meds MUST be tapered off, not just stopped.  You do not want to suddenly alter your chemistry, the effects of doing that could be very confusing and seriously effect your judgement and behavior.

Have a long talk with your treating Dr.  This can be adjusted successfully.
