Do to the fact that there are a few immature individuals on this forum, I unfortunately decided to remove the chat capabilities. We have tried this 4 times and each time it costs IHD money to rebuild the Chatroom. Money that we don't have. When donations are made it is to keep IHD on line to continue Epomans legacy, and not to give inconsiderate people a play room to ruin it for the rest of us. Remember this was a private chat which means the problem is within and among us. This angers me because we take pride in having the number 1 Dialysis support forum in the world. We strictly run on donation, there has never been a membership fee ever. Eventually the Chat button will be replaced with a button linking to our Facebook page.

Thank you for your understanding.

We have folks on this forum from all over the world with different ethnic background, all different sexual orientation, blended families etc. We have no tolerance for disrespecting others in our forum or the chat. The Chat does not have the same security protection that the forum has. Things are able to get by us occasionally, but when it becomes something we have to pay someone else to do, thats where I draw the line. I am not on the forums much these days because of my job, however I go through hundreds of notifications some days of hackers trying to get past our security settings.

sorry to take the chat away but it really is not me taking it away, it is the people that have nothing better to do with their time that caused this.

How very sad...

Many an hour or ten I've mis-spent in Chat!!!... A few of us pulled an All-Nighter once... A few people had a 'little drink' or two during that night... Purely to sustain themselves, and to ease the pain of the overworked fingertips, you understand???... They took no pleasure in drinking it... Or so they said, anyway!... As we say here, purely for Medicinal Purposes!... Remember having a sandwich myself at 4am to sustain myself... It was great fun...

Chatting kept me sane on many an occasion, or what passes for sane... I was in TOTAL despair several times... Bear in mind, I have no other family to share the caring of Mum with, so all the work and worry is on me... When I was climbing the walls with worry about Mum, other chatty IHDers would very soon bring me back to earth, and tell me to get a grip... In the nicest possible way, of course!... The support we drew from each other just 'being there' was fab!...

Very sorry to see it go... What a shame some people can't see it for what it is... A place to have fun while supporting each other, and not go trying to ruin the darned thing!... I can fully understand why the decision was made, but I'll be sad for future newbies who, like I once was, are in desperation, and really need support quickly, and outside of 'Office Hours'... When I first entered the 'Kidney Family', the members of IHD who indulged in 'Chat' were my rocks!... I REALLY needed that kind of support then... Oh, and I thank God that the mods and admins DIDN'T know half the chat that went on... We could be, erm, somewhat fruity in our discussions!....

Love to all...

Darth...

I had many late night chats with kitkatz, jbeany, lola, tubes, goofynina, wattle, Chris and more!
I don't know why people want to target the chat option to hack... it's bizarre!

The chat room was so much fun and really helped to bond many of us.  So sad that some  members misused it.

Just to be clear, was it IHD members' misuse of chat that has made you close it down, or was it the activities of hackers?  Or both?

One problem with responsibility is the need to make hard choices.  You run this place and you run it well.  If you felt the need to close it down I can't see how you could avid the hard choice.  I am sorry it's gone but I am even more sorry that you were put in this position.  Thank you for doing you job.  Your unpaid job here.  I love this place and I think yor work here is amazing.

How much do you pay for hosting for ihatedialysis.com?   I'm asking because I have a dedicated server with extra capacity that could be made available for free.  Also, given the volunteer mods, are there any other expenses besides domain registration associated with running IHD?

There are server fees and software updates occasionally. Epoman's widow covers the costs with Premium Member contributions.

It's been awhile since I have used the chat room.but  It helped through lots of dialysis sessions. It such a shame people have ruined this for others it was a great help to me when going 8 hours  into the chair. :(
