 :yahoo;  I love picking a lemon off the tree in my backyard, slicing it in half, squeezing out the juice, picking out the seeds, and drinking down the juice.  It's only a few ounces, but it feels like a tall glass of lemonade on a hot day. :bandance;

oh goodness  ;D , that is my hubbys favorite thing to do but  He just slices um up and sticks the whole slice in his mouth and sucks it to death..lol  Right now it's lemons from neighbor as our new planted tree only gave us two..lol

I like lemons. It's one of the few fruits you don't have to worry about potassium and has many health benefits but it can erode tooth enamel. After eating a lemon rinse your mouth with water.

I still wouldn't worry about it unless you have a pica-level craving for sourness. It's really hard to drink a cup of lemon juice. One lemon's worth of lemon juice has about 60 mg of potassium.

Maybe pica isn't the right word for the general idea I was thinking of - a craving for something that (may or may not, but often does in a natural form) corrects a deficiency. For a long time before I was on dialysis, I couldn't get enough sour candy. The more sour, the better. It turns out, sour things in nature, like lemon juice, behave as bases once metabolized, because the citric acid is in balance with citrate salts. I had renal tubular acidosis at the time. I was still making urine, but it wasn't removing enough acid (or maybe it was removing too much bicarbonate - I'm not sure which). Something like lemon juice would have been a natural treatment for that. Too bad I was turning toward sour candy, which doesn't have the same citrate balance.

A lot of lemonade in the US is closer to 1 part lemon juice, 1 part sugar, and 6 parts water; though I like it even more dilute, and less sweet. Sometimes I'll drink water spiked with lemon juice, but that's only about a teaspoon per 8 ounces.
