Vegetarian hot dogs

I ate some vegetarian hot dogs last week that came in a can.   They only had 20 mg. of potassium in them.  I think the sodium level was around 200 mg.  They had 7 grams of protein.  Does anyone eat these as part of their renal diet?  They weren't bad, and they digest well.

lol wow those brought back memories. I have a bestfriend who never had a sinlge piece of meat her whole life and we had those one night in college (pre-dialysis). lol

I never had any out of the can, but I have had ones in packaging a long time ago... I haven't seen them around... the only ones I have seen are tofu dogs, and those are not only nasty, but I've been told soy/tofu isn't a good diet choice (at least in my case?)

They're called "Veja-Links' by Worthington, and I got them at a Clark's Health Food Store in Loma Linda, California.  Loma Linda is a stronghold of the 7th Day Aventists (pardon my spelling), a religion that emphasizes vegetarian living.  My wife works at a hospital they sponsor, and it's a really good hospital by the way.  It's so much better than the average cookie-cutter, treat them like cattle hospitals we have in Southern California.  They're  $4.49 (health food store prices) for 10 servings.  They have 50 calories, 3 gms. of fat, 0 cholesterol, 180 mg. of sodium, 20 mg. of potassium, and 1 gram of carbohydrate.  They're distributed by Kellogg Sales Co.  For more information check out morningstarfarms.com.

Whamo, it seems like its worth a try. I live really close to Loma Linda University and they have a grocery store on campus.
