I has my fistula put in last Friday. Going into the surgery I was a little sick just getting over a virus. The day after the surgery I has a temp of 103 felt bad for a couple days. My creatinine went from 4.3 to 5.6 and GFR went from 16 to 10. All in less than a week. Is this just temporary stress from the surgery or are my kidneys taking a nose dive?? Worried I won't have time for my fistula to mature.

Temporary. Creatinine is a muscle waste product. After surgery I wouldn't sweat it. Wait a month and have another look.

But would surgery cause such a rapid decline in GFR? It might, but I don't know. The trauma of surgery can do all sorts of weird things to you.

I think it is more the virus than anything. When we get sick it is worse than the non-FSGS peeps. We have a low immune system. I hope you feel better soon.

Of course a fever of 103 can make you feel awful too! Get that down to normal and see how you feel! I would think that if they felt you needed D right away, they could do it through a perm cath in neck till fistula matures. Sorry you are going through all this and wishing you well through it all!
God Bless,

I saw my Neph. He said if my blood work is not better in two weeks he is going to put in a catheter in my chest. He wants to start Dialysis and my fistula is not ready. I think it was just a bump from surgery. I have been feeling better for the past couple days

So glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. If you can still drink as much as you want, drink as much as you can, good luck SP

Just did my blood work 3 weeks after fistula surgery. My creatinine went from 5.6 down to 4.3. My doctor was getting ready to start dialysis but I asked him to wait, and sure enough it went back down. I had a feeling it would go back down. My kidneys are hanging on.

My wife went to the Mall where there is a Victoria's Secret and bought a sexy bra. My fistula went up and my creatinine made buzzing noises.
