Got my a/v fistula put in yesterday. I wanted to ask everyone if you have experienced any problems right after surgery or a little down the line. I still think I am 6 months to a year from dialysis. the Doctor put in in just below the crease where i bent y arm on the inside. Is this a good spot??
I hope it's a good spot because that's where I have mine! LOL! The access itself, though, will be above the bendy crease. The anamatosis (sp? the point where the vein joins the artery...sorry, can't think of the word at the moment...brain cramp...
) is below the bendy crease.
The only problem I experience was the weird, lightning like sensations that would spark down toward my wrist. I guess some nerves were damaged or something, and for the first 8 months or so after surgery, I'd get these shocky feelings. I also experienced some aching and pain in various parts of my arm, once so bad that I went to the ER. I think I was more worried than anything because I had never had a fistula before and since I hadn't used it yet, I didn't know what was normal. I've had it for two years now, without having to use it, and now I get some soreness if I lift stuff that's too heavy. But I really haven't had any problems that needed treatment of any sort. Just anxiety problems. LOL!
