Ive had it up to my head with this dialysis diet. Im so sick of it. Ive spent soo much money on stupid meat. So I got an almost 2lb of eye of round roast (stupid meat). Followed the directions on a recipe. It came out either still bloody or very tough to chew. So I guess I get to miss another meal and starve myself so more. If I dont get a kidney soon I am going to lose it. Had enough!

Oh honey- that is a tough cut of meat to get just right. I usually make BBQ in the crock pot with it. It is not a favoite. Do you like cube steak? did you know you can buy any cut of meat (like eye of round) and the butcher will cut it and put it through the machine that makes cube steak. I cook it on the grill, broil it in the oven or pan fry it-. Its tender from going through that machine , and the peices are thinner so its easier to cook too.

Mmmmmm, cube steak! I'm having some tonight! A nick name for it is "poor man's steak" because it is affordable. You can braise it, fry it up in a pan, and do other things with it. I just fry it up in a pan with lots of pepper. It's been a craving of mine lately...

i like to buy the whole roasted chickens from the stores...Costco's is the best.  You can eat that on a sandwich, as a dinner with some sides, in a salad, or made into a chicken salad.  It is so moist and yummy.

Hamburger patties are good too.  I love some kinds of fish..esp. halibut and cod and mahi mahi.  I just oil it and grill it and serve with some lemon.  I use a little Old Bay seasoning on the meat.  Just a little because it is salty.

 :bandance;

I agree with the crock pot idea for the meat.  It is hard to get meat not to be tough.  If you brown it first and put in crock pot with some onions and seasoning it will come out tender and juicy.  Good in sandwiches and in burritos.

I just tried a new vegan cheese called Daiya.  It is very good for fake cheese.  No dairy in it at all.

Good luck and don't give up.

Yea Lisa, I understand your frustrations about the protein!  PD is nortorous for needing alot of protein. Dextrose will eat up all the protein in your body, but the protein is what makes PD work well.  Hemo does not require alot of protein. J. would get so mad about me trying to shove protein in him at meal-times and snacks. Im so glad we don't have to worry about it anymore.

When we trained for PD, the one thing that we were told was that the diet was less restrictive. But since doing hemo, he eats anything he wants but in moderation.  So I really don't see how they can say that!  What they could say is "Eat lots of Meat", because that will make the PD work better!  Don't remember being trained that.

Just hug your Man, Lisa!  Tomorrow is another day and hopefully a brighter one for you!

God Bless,

for everyone who is saying that protein makes PD work well...

how does that work??

Just curious

My protein has been low since I started PD..and it is a huge struggle for me to eat more. I have been told to have a minimum of 66g of protein a day. I don't even eat that much in a day.... since I only eat two meals: lunch and dinner

  A good way to get protein is to have protein drinks.  You can use rice milk and a whey protein. Ask your nutritionist what she recommends.  It is yummy with some frozen pineapple and blended.  Add one or two of those to your daily intake of protein.

Painless and delicious at the same time!
