Me and Hubby were mentioned in the Seattle Times Last Wk

After we got snowed in. The emails he sent and the article are below....

We live on the dead end part of s. 150th st. east of 42nd ave s. The last time it snowed this much the ambulances would not go down our street, and it we could not get up to 42nd ave. to go anywhere. The problem with that is I need to get my girlfriend to dialysis this evening around 5pm. Could you please have a truck plow and sand the difficult part of our road, from 42nd ave to Thorndyke Elementary? It is not a very long stretch of road and would help everyone on this road very much. I know you people are very busy today, and thank you for your consideration.

To Mayor@tukwilawa.gov I sent an email asking for the dead end portion of s. 150th st., east of 42nd ave so., to be plowed so that I could get my girlfriend to dialysis. The support we received is greatly appreciated and much more than we expected. We had calls from agencies offering help from their programs that provide transportation for people on dialysis. We also had a call from the kidney center we go to, asking if they could help in any way. And while I was shoveling our walkway and driveway I saw our street get plowed and sanded, and then a little later get sanded again. This is a very difficult, dead end, street to get off of when it snows. And thanks to your help I was able to get Krisna to dialysis and home again safely. I want to give a big thanks to you and your staff for being so helpful in our time of need. Thank you very much!!

Mr. Knight thanks very much for taking time to express your thanks. I am sending your message along with this email to the appropriate city leaders who made this happen. I receive many phone calls and emails in weather events such as this and even from residents on my dead end street with different reasons to have their residential street cleared sooner rather than later. Your request yesterday really hit home with me and I made a special effort to contact our Public Works and Emergency Management personnel because of what appeared to me a looming medical emergency. Our staff contacted many of the agencies who in turn contacted you with offers of assistance. In the end it shows how the City of Tukwila can respond to citizens in emergencies and that we do care.
You should feel very good because in our well organized emergency plan for the city the main arterial streets and thoroughfares are priority number one and we get to the lesser used residential streets as soon as possible after that. The crews have worked exceptionally hard day and night to cover as much of the city as possible but they just can not satisfy the needs of all the residential streets in the city immediately. Your situation was an exception that we made every effort to respond to and we will pass along your thoughts to the employees who made this happen. I am so glad it worked out as well as you describe and really appreciate your kind words for city staff and their efforts.

A plow in time for a dialysis patient

Wednesday's snowstorm was especially anxiety-producing for Krisna Reece, a 40-year-old Tukwila resident who has kidney dialysis three days a week.

On Wednesday, the day of regulary-scheduled dialysis, Reece and her fiance, John Knight, realized they were trapped on their street by the snow.

Reece said the two live on a dead-end street near a school, and if school is closed — as it was on Wednesday — crews don't sand or plow the road.

Knight got to work on the phone, calling the Tukwila mayor's office, which in turn contacted the public works department. By afternoon, the road had been plowed, and Knight was able to get Reece to dialysis on time.

"I was actually surprised they came out and did it," Reece said. She's been on dialysis since 2002, but this is the first time she's had to request assistance from the city.

"I didn't expect that good a response, but it was great," Knight said.
