Safety and Efficacy of Autologous Bone Marrow Stem Cells for Treating CKD

Recuruiting for CLINICAL trial.

Eligibility

Ages Eligible for Study:      18 Years to 65 Years
Genders Eligible for Study:      Both
Accepts Healthy Volunteers:      No
Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

   1. Must be able to give voluntary written (patients may not be able to write) consent.
   2. Must be able to understand study information provided to him.
   3. CKD patients of stage IV and ESRD with age 18 to 65 years.
   4. Patient should be afebrile 24 hours prior to procedure.

Chronic renal failure (CRF, or "chronic kidney failure", CKF, or "chronic kidney disease", CKD) is a slowly progressive loss of renal function over a period of months or years and defined as an abnormally low glomerular filtration rate, which is usually determined indirectly by the creatinine level in blood serum.

CRF that leads to severe illness and requires some form of renal replacement therapy(such as dialysis) is called end-stage renal disease (ESRD). While renal replacement therapies can maintain patients indefinitely and prolong life, the quality of life is severely affected. Renal transplantation increases the survival of patients with stage 5 CKD significantly when compared to other therapeutic options; however, it is associated with an increased short-term mortality (due to complications of the surgery).

In view of the above, there is definitely an urgent need for finding different methods of treatment for these patients who cannot undergo established modalities of treatment or these have been tried unsuccessfully hence the inadequacy of current treatment modalities and insufficiency of donor organs for transplantation have driven a search for improved methods of dealing with renal failure. The rising concept of cell-based therapeutics has provided a framework around which new approaches are being generated, and its combination with advances in stem cell research stands to bring both fields to clinical fruition. Since CRF affects a large number of these patients who will lose their productive life, stem cell implantation can offer some promise of improved health.

In our present study, we want to evaluate the safety and efficacy (to know / observe for Proof of concept in five indian patients) if any, of autologous bone marrow derived stem cells injected into the Renal Artery in five (initially five patients, can be increased to ten patients after observing the initial results) patients with Chronic Renal Failure

and she volunteered for a Kidney-Lupus-Stem-Cell-Trial.

Her Stem-Cell-Trial took place
in one of the best known University-Clinics
and she died in the process.

A lot of people have been cured by stem cells by pharmaceutical companies have suppressed information plus the religious idiotic people who think that only embryonic cells can be used.

Don't the know adult stem cells exist? Almost as good as the counterpart.

What about the India part?  Most of us are in the US. I'm in Canada, myself.  I can't afford to go to India, but I wouldn't mind more information on the subject.  I'm always open to new treatments, and I don't mind being a guinea pig, if I'm well informed on all the risks beforehand.

There are many stem cell related treatments out there - some with promise, and some quite scary (I still want to know what happened to that woman who went to Mexico for 3 weeks last year was it?! That was using foetal stem cells though).

I think healthy skepticism is warranted. All of us have heard of the wonders of stem-cells and what they can do, and just as many have heard and or read about many causes for concern.

One thing I will say is that if this study is fundled and supported by legitimate world recognised scientific organisations and teams that is a good thing. Without trials like this, conducted in the proper way and by the proper environments, we can't have progress to get to the kinds of technologies that can really help everyday folks like you and I. In that respect that the trials may be in India may be of little concern if it's a legitimately backed study (I really do not know from the weblink provided). I know many countries have current bans on stem cell treatments on adults (I believe Australia is still one of these, but could be wrong) and it could be that India is more willing for such things to go on, which makes the work viable in that part of the world.

With such an emerging and sensitive area, and somethingg that has so man potential positives as it does negatives,  I suspect progress will be slow as legislators and medical scientists begin to come up with an ethical and moral framework which can satisfy the competing requirements of safety, moral concerns, safe use of stem cells, etc. Again, without properly conducted trials that this suggests it is, we can't progress.

Personally I am one that believes that some day, down the track, stem cells are the way to go in terms of eventually providing a way to grow compatable organs from our own cells that will mean no rejection and no harm to others - but I also understand this technology is still a LONG way off. As such we need to have healthy (no pun intended) skepticism when it comes to this stuff.

I do not think that the thread should be deleted though - I think that is extreme. If we can find proof that this is not somehow legitimite then I do not see why it should not be included (and as it is, from what I read it should be pretty much done after November last year anyway). Maybe we'll see some positive results in a year or two and it will prove this was worthwhile. Or maybe not.

I'm not saying that I would sign up for something like this right away, because I simply don't know if it is creditible or not, and anyone considering such a thing should do their own due dilligence. For mine, I read with an interest but certainly a real dose of questioning regarding how legitimite it may or may not be.

I have often been wondering what happened to the people
who informed us about their treatment,
and then we never heard of them again...
Why have they not come back to us after a while
to tell us whether or not their treatment is still working for them ?

I like the idea, and I am all for research in this area.  But I would be uncomfortable with going to India.

I have contacted the doctors but and the medical scientist involved in the stem cells research and they said taht they have actually been using adult stem cells for a long time now but in cosmetic breast implant surgeries.

They notice that when they injected stem into the breast, not only did the breast healed without any scars, but the whole systems of organs have improve in function, skin has become more smooth and young looking, improve memory, concentration and overall patients who have been injected with stem cells. 

Then they started to realize that it might be viable to actually use it for medical reason aside from cosmetics.

This uses ADULT STEM cells so no need to worry about going up in a moral high horse of arrogance.

I have been rejected by the clinical trial because I am on immuno - suppressants and it is one of the exclusion criteria.

I have posted this for those who might be illegible.

Stem cell treatment for kidney are already available unfortunately, the treatments are expensive, the cost from 12,000 dollars - 15,000 dollars.

I just do not have any money for it. I am too poor to have any treatments may it be dialysis, transplant or stem cells.

Probably I would already be dead by now.

Do not even expect for a reply cause I am not really sure if I even have tomorrow to live.
mY body is too weak and sick now. Been vomiting a lot. constant pain.

Alchemist what country do you live in?  I'm sure if you live in the United States you can get the medical care you need if you are at the poverty level... ever hear of welfare? Medicade? etc?

Say what? Of course adult stem cells have been used for a long time - that is all that a bone marrow transplant is. Never heard of it being used for cosmetic surgery.

Since they are talking about autologous stem cell transplants, you would not need to worry about rejection or graft-vs-host, but I cannot imagine that this would work at all for renal failure.

They are doing this in the US. Not with autologous cells because that makes no sense, but I've had a stem cell/renal transplant and it does work, or it did for me, but it is one hell of a road to get there. I am glad I did not know what was before me when I started out because whle I still would have gone ahead with it, I would have been much more scared.

I have read some of your other posts, alchemist, and I hope you are able to find help somewhere. I would be infuriated in your situation, too. One member very kindly posted quite a few places you could reach out to in the Philippines. I hope one of them leads to you receiving proper medical care. Good luck.
