Diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease at age 19.
Renal Failure at age 38 (2010) came about 2 hrs close to dying. Central line put in an emergency.
Began dialysis on Aug 15, 2010.
Creatine @ time of dialysis: 27. I almost died.
History of High Blood Pressure
I have Neuropathy and Plantar Fasciitis in My Feet
AV Fistula created in Nov. 2011, still buzzing well!
Transplanted in April, 2013. My husband and I participated in the Living Donor paired exchange program. I nicknamed my kidney "April"

Good news! Just got back from getting my permcath removed. It all went well..he had to give me some lidocaine for the numbness, but after he gave it to me, didn't feel a thing except the pressure. He even showed it to me after he took it out :P

Nope, I'm still lacking one!  They said I could get one in a year, after the first mess is fully healed, if I really feel the need.  Considering I get complications every time those fools get near me, I don't think I'm ever gonna need one that much!

My permacath also came out quite quickly and easily with just local anesthetic.  Or most of it did.

I started having problems about 5 months later.  I developed an infection at what had been the permacath site.  It turned out that when the technician pulled out the permacath, a piece of the plastic sleeve had broken off and remained inside my body.  This piece of plastic became a breeding ground for infection.  I had to have it removed surgically.

Based on my experience, after the permacath is removed, have your physician palpate (feel) the area around the site to be sure that nothing hard remains underneath the skin.

I was supposed to have a catheter exchange yesterday and couldn't because when he tried to remove it, it was stuck.

Now they are going to try and clear it by soaking it for an hour with ...what is it..TMP? And see if that frees it....if not it's a transesophageal echocardiogram next.

The party never ends with Dialysis!!

I was literraly in and out in less than a half hour..... they gave me a topical and I did not feel a thing, and I was able to take a shower with in the next 2 days (had not had one in 3 months!!!!!!!!!!) no pain after either and I did not even need any pain meds either in fact I went out that night and celebrated New Years Eve!!!  :bandance;

good luck............... its pretty painless and I am the biggesst baby you will ever meet!!!!!!!!

08.15.11: Started filling with 1500ml (instead of 2000ml), 4 exchanges
08.21.11: Back to 2000ml fills, 4 exchanges (3-2.5% & 1-1.5%)
10.12.11: 2000ml fills, 4 exchanges (3 1.5% & 1-2.5% overnight)
11.08.11: Transplant list

Dialysis works for me, I don't work for dialysis!

Well, I'm having the transesophageal echocardiogram at noon today. I have a horrible gag reflex and it really freaks me out to have a numb throat so I am extremely anxious about it.

I just hope they sedate the crap out of me because I don't know how I'll get through it otherwise.
