So now my fistula is healing quite well (from two weeks ago) and I'm scheduled to get my PD catheter on Tues 5/10/2011. My neph is quite concerned because my creatinine went from 10.25 last week to 11.35 yesterday. He wants me to start PD as soon as possible (days) after the catheter is inserted even if it's just small exchanges (20% of normal). And all this could be sooner if he convinces the hospital to get me into the OR sooner. I'm ready because I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.  :P

I went ahead and got the fistula as a backup only and hope to never have to use it. Apparently this is quite unusual around here as my neph said I was his first patient to do it. Of course I negotiate all procedures and costs personally so don't have an insurance company or social worker making these decisions for me. I will be going on Medicare as soon as the D starts so I guess I then become a government slave after that...after being caught in phone hell with Social Security yesterday for an hour I'm not looking forward to being a ward of the bureaucracy.  :'(

Tuesday? Don't you mean Thursday? You really are ready to start.  :clap;

Best wishes that your catheter's placed OK. I'm sure you'll feel miles better when you get started at last.

I think you are wise to have both accesses done now, that way you have choices if need be.  Good luck next week on your PD surgery and I hope everything goes as smooth as possible as you start PD.  Keep us posted.
