You know when you've been talking to your neph too much lately when she calls you out of the blue and says, “Hi Deanne, can you call Carolyn and ask her to change your appointment from May 12 to May 9. This is Karen by the way.”  :rofl; (Karen is my neph's first name. I think she always uses her first name instead of the formal Dr X.)

1972: Diagnosed with "chronic kidney disease" (no specific diagnosis)
1994: Diagnosed with FSGS
September 2011: On transplant list with 15 - 20% function
September 2013: ~7% function. Started PD dialysis
February 11, 2014: Transplant from deceased donor. Creatinine 0.57 on 2/13/2014

About a week after Carl's transplant our GP called (10:30 at night), all excited. She had heard the news from her son (a former student of mine and FB friend) and wanted to give her congratulations. We knew her through the school long before she became our GP, so we have always called her by her first name.  :lol;
