I'm snowed in and bored so let's get creative - What good similes can we come up with? I'll start.
Being on dialysis is like being put on hold and listening to the same muszak over and over and over and over.....
Being on dialysis is like flying away on a great vacation but just circling above airport and never landing at your destination. You're on your way to somewhere you want to be but you don't know when you'll land and you may run out of fuel while you're waiting.

Being on dialysis is something that always comes as a shock, even if you've been expecting it to happen for years.

Being on dialysis is like when you are really starving for a particular type of food and you are really really craving it. Well you go in for the first mouth watering bite and you drop your fork on the ground! What a disappointment!!!

Being on dialysis is like having your spine pulled out through the top of your head. And I'm not even to the hard part yet with the needles, still have a permacath.

Being on dialysis is like a 1960's horror film. The most horrible thing they could think of was Dracula, the vampire. Sucking blood of his victims was the epitomy of horror. Now my blood is sucked three times a week by an electromechanical vampire. And I have the tooth marks in my arm to show for it. And it lasts for four hours a time.

I agree and when the dialysis session is over you feel like you've been run over by a bus...

Being on dialysis is like watching reruns of a television show you absolutely hate.
Being on dialysis is like hearing the same song played over and over again.
Being on dialysis is like being caught in a revolving door, you want to leave for good but you find yourself coming back.
Being on dialysis is like tethered swimming, you can kick and flail about all you want but you're still stuck there.

It's good to have some positive thoughts mixed in here, too.
I'll try.
Being on dialysis brought me to IHD and a whole new circle of cyber-friends!
