Dear all,

another problem... my father has to be on the bed for a long time after the dialysis as his blood takes long time to stop bleeding... lately we came to know about decreased platelets... last month he got 4 packs of blood in addition to mircera 100 every two weeks... any idea about the decreased platelets?

Best regards,
Deependra

There are many causes of low platelets.

Many medications, including certain antibiotics, can cause low platelets as a side effect. That's the first thing to check, before going on to more difficult causes.

My platelets are always low because I can't receive the epogen. I'm very allergic to it. I have to get blood transfusions every month. Maybe they should increase his epogen dosage so his body will make more blood???

If his hemoglobin & hematocrit are OK, then his epogen shouldn't be increased beyond that.  Epogen can have some nasty side effects if you take more than you need.
