This is from a blog on the Kidney Foundation of Canada website.  I figured, with it being the height of summer (at least in the Northern Hemisphere..*G*) these tips could probably help those of us on fluid restrictions, or who are just trying to limit fluid intake, and still get past the thirst and dryness that the heat brings.

Hidey Ho, Neighbor! *waves from across the Gulf*  :waving;

Sure is hard to keep fluids in check on those hot days and nights. My hardest time is at social things on the weekend like BBQs or parties. I try to nurse one or two coolers but it's hard.

One tip I got from a friend for at home was to buy those small freezy pops. They are like 20ml each so even if you went crazy and ate 10 of them in a night (like I do), it's still only 200ml.

I freeze lemonaid in ice cube trays and use a snow cone maker to make it last.  I also refuse to live without airconditioning.

You can lose so much water through perspiration that it may not be necessary to worry about how much water you're drinking.

Try weighing yourself before you leave your home on a hot day, and then weigh yourself as soon as you return.  You may be surprised that you gained no weight at all from the water you drank in the interim.

With our fluid and sodium restrictions, you have to worry about dehydration in the heat, as much as you have to worry about putting on too much fluid weight.

I know what you mean, RightSide. I typically gain 3-3.5 kgs between treatments here at home. When I went to Vegas and walked along  The Strip, I sweated out a lot and I drank a lot. Seemed to me I drank the same or even more than I normally do. But when I got to the dialysis unit and weighed in, I was only up 2.5kg.  Across from our hotel there was a place that had 32 oz margaritas for only 99¢.  :bandance;

During summer I like to walk for an hour or more when I can and that sweats out quite a bit and it's very nice to walk in the sun (yes I know, if I ever get a transplant I'll have to reconsider that exercise routine!). I find that yes, in general you sweat out more and it's OK to have a bit extra. Since I always weigh myself at home it's easy for me to keep tabs on how I am going with the fluids and drink more or less appropriately.

it's the times when I would love to sit for an afternoon watching an absorbing game of cricket with a few stubbies of cold beer that I get depressed!  :rofl;

I have no fluid restrictions, so yay for me, not to brag but I'm just glad I can have that luxury. The other day I had to go at dialysis and I lost almost one kelo.

May 13, 2009, went to urgent care with shortness of breath
May 19, 2009, went to doctor for severe nausea
May 20, 2009, admited to hospital for kidney failure
May 20, 2009, started dialysis with a groin cath
May 25, 2009, permacath was placed
august 24, 2009, was suppose to have access placement but instead was admited to hospital for low potassium
august 25, 2009, access placement
January 16, 2010 thrombectomy was done on access

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.
