As long as you feel that your doc is competent, then that's the most important thing. His compassion or his outgoing personality isn't going to get you a kidney and keep it going once you have it. His competence and expertise will serve you better in the long run. If you find you are in need of compassion and understanding, then come here to IHD because we're damn good at giving those things!
It may help you to redefine "weakness". You are fighting the toughest battle of all, and that is to regain your life when so much of it is in the control of other people ie your too-heavy donor, your doctor and the transplant committee. So far, you are still alive, so you are winning. That makes you tough in every sense of the word.
