10 pounds and waiting

Just a quick summery of what I think about hospital policy surly not any kind of law.
Over a year now and my donor can't loose the last 10 lbs, for what ever reason. According to hospital policy he's not at the proper weight to donate his kidney to me yet.
What I don't understand why would the hospital keep holding out and letting me get worst every month.
What's more important here my health or the hospital's health. Nothing in the world is simple unless you have your head in the noose, then nothing needs to be complicating.
Is it more important that the hospital have complete hipaa secrecy or we the patient be told whats going on. We give dogs more human rights that Kidney patients.

They do have pretty strict guidelines for the living donors.  Each center is a little different.  ( I think you have found that out already).   The hospital has to cover themselves regarding the donor.  They probably aren't even thinking of your health.  Those who were tested for me had a different co-ordinator  and I never had contact with that person.  She passed info to my co-ordinator, who then would call me.   We aren't told much, are we?   We just sit around and wait.  They are busy with all the other patients but I think they should be worried about ME!!      I am sorry the process has slowed down.  I thought I would be transplanted within a six month time frame ---- 4+ years and waiting!    As I said to Tracy in another thread, I am not a patient person.  Let's just get this done!  Can your donor ask for the team to reevaluate the situation?   10 pounds doesn't seem like a make or break it deal.   I hate this for you.

My doctor knows what he's doing with the Kidney however like most doctors not very outgoing and little short on the compation train.
All I have now is my work and garden, as most of you I'm to dam tired to go anywhere after dialysis. Thanks a lot I know it's been harder on most of you than me, but as a cop we are not supposed to show weakness. Well that's a load of crap too, after the cape comes off its hard not to be human after all. Y'All have a great day .

I just realized that's Paula Deen with you!   There must be a good story behind that pic!

As long as you feel that your doc is competent, then that's the most important thing.  His compassion or his outgoing personality isn't going to get you a kidney and keep it going once you have it.  His competence and expertise will serve you better in the long run.  If you find you are in need of compassion and understanding, then come here to IHD because we're damn good at giving those things!

It may help you to redefine "weakness".  You are fighting the toughest battle of all, and that is to regain your life when so much of it is in the control of other people ie your too-heavy donor, your doctor and the transplant committee.  So far, you are still alive, so you are winning.  That makes you tough in every sense of the word.

The story behind Paula Dean, I was in savannah,Ga to pick up a prisoner, so of course we went down town to eat before the trip. I'm a frustrated cook and a long time cop. We had time getting into the restaurant until I said we had a paper for Mrs Dean. The young man looked at me and decided to let us in. As long as we are here you want to eat I ask my partner. Well 10 minuets later the Restaurant manager a nice young man was taking us on a tour of the famous kitchen of Paula Deans. Mrs Dean wasn't in the restaurant this date so we went next door after lunch to the book store and I purchased an autographed copy of one of her books for my sister in law Amy  who has done so much for me. Standing in the corner of the book store was a life size cardboard picture of Mrs Dean, so my buddy snapped the picture of us, and that's the whole truth.

Eating at The Lady and Sons was on my "bucket list" and my husband took us to Savannah a couple of years ago.  It was just as marvelous as I had hoped.  I didn't see the cutout of Paula or I would have taken a picture too!!   I did buy a cookbook and seasoning.  Yummy!   Thanks for sharing your story.
