Can't really go anywhere today

  I have to stay home today because I am doing the 24 hour urine test, and am afraid if I go anywhere I will have to pee lol. I guess today will just be a relaxing day! Hope I pee a lot too!!

I had to do one of those while I was working - how embarrassing to be dragging a giant cooler along every time I had to pee!  Staying home sounds much better.

I have yet to put my pee in the container, will need to next pee though, I will keep it probably in the garage.

               yes keeping all your pee for a day, and all the pd fluid is yet another hassle.
 we all have to go through, batch test again, for men it aint to bad carrying a big orange

I used to manage it to do them on a Sunday say 8am-8am Monday, then drop at hospital path lab on the way to work. That way I could stay at home and not be totally embarassed/inconvenienced. There has been once or twice when I've had to do it in conjunction with a work day.. well what can you do? just bundle up the bottle in the work bag and take it along and be discreet when visiting the lav.... ugh. not fun I can definitely relate!

I've always done these on a day off.  Being that the stupid thing needs to be refrigerated, I'd never subject my co-workers to seeing *that* in the office fridge!!!   I hate doing them on a nice day, but on a rainy day - who cares?  Stay home, or close to home, and watch movies!  Besides, they always have given me one of those "urine hats" to pee in, which is another thing I'd never subject my co-workers to.  Yikes!

Well I am done with the Great Pee Adventure- I have to bring it back with me to dialysis today and hopefully my  pee will have toxins in it and not just be water!! I accidentally spilled a lil bit of pee when i was pouring it in the jug from the hat so I had to pee 1 more time this morning so shhhhh dont tell lol. I am hoping to go down to 2x a week soon!

 karen, I have to smile when my husband is doing this, it is so easy for men isn't it, "flop it out, aim for the plastic neck and away you go " could not be easier. men seem to get all the easy options. I suppose I'm in for it now !!!!!!!

Never refrigerated mine either.  My understanding is that it can be at room temp for a couple of days but refrigerated after that.  Sometimes labs will chill it until testing but that appears to have an effect on the results...there's a medical study about that somewhere.

If you live in a particularly hot climate maybe that makes a difference but personally I've done 24 hour urines at work, keeping the jug under my desk and dragging it with me to the bathroom.

It must be a Puget Sound thing.  I've had to refrigerate mine ever since I did my first one at age 23.  That was at a different dr/med facility than the one I use now.  When I first started doing these, I still lived at home and slept in the basement w/a small fridge, so that was perfect.  Now I have a half bath right across from the kitchen, so I just make sure I do all my "pees" from there.  This means putting something on the upstairs toilet so I don't make *that* mistake!  Better to put an obstacle on the darn thing than make a whole 24 hrs go to waste!

I also was told to put mine in the frig.  I said tell that to Karen it isnt going to happen.  And when at work well that aint gonna happen either.  They (the nurses) said oh well do what you have to just get us the sample.  I mean really a big orange bottle in the fridge.  Someone may mistake it for orange juice...

I was in the doctor's waiting room a couple of months back.

An Essex girl walked in. I knwew she was from Essex because of her accent. Anyway, she was carrying this soup bowl, full to the brim with what looked like urine.

"Good grief" I said "Is that what I think it is?" She said she had to bring a sample. "And you walked here with that bowl full?" "Nah, of course not silly. I caught the bus".

 

P.S. I wouldn't believe every story I tell you.

I had an argument with an ER nurse recently. She wanted a urine sample.  I told her I could not give her one.
Between the ostomy bag, the mucus coming from the stoma, and the lack of urine, It would not be a good idea to give one.  The lab would have a hissy fit at it.
She said well I may come for one.
I just laughed.  No I do not think so.
