My hubbys feet are starting to get that tingle that he as been asked about over the years, but so far not had.  He's wondering what 'stage' this is as far as "is he heading toward loosing toes/foot?"  And what should he be doing to keep his feet.  that may sound kind of harsh, but thats what he's asking.  His blood sugars are nearly always in very good control, he exercises, and his numbers are all good on his "report cards" at dialysis.  Just wondering if anyone has input on this.. Thanks a bunch... It's great to have my computer back and be able to be back involved here.

Dont know about the relationship to D, but my hubby just asked his Dr. about that the other day. He is also diabetic, and his numbers are all good, so Dr. said it was just a part of the diabetes. Hope he is right and hope that is going to work for you too.

I'm not diabetic and my feet get cold easy and get sharp pains once in a while.  I think that is part of long term dialysis.  I think your husband will be fine if he takes care of his feet.  He may ask his doc the next time he sees him.

Best of luck on this.

That sounds like neuropathy, which can happen with either diabetes or kidney failure.

There are some good drugs to treat neuropathy these days.
Your husband should discuss his symptom with his doctor.

"is he heading toward loosing toes/foot?"  ...what should he be doing to keep his feet

He and/or you should be checking his feet thoroughly every day for injuries, wounds, cracking between the toes, etc. With neuropathy comes the loss of sensation. A wound ignored leads to the infections that are the most frequent cause of lower limb loss.

More generally, keeping his numbers good slows the progression of damage to the small blood vessels in the extremities. This helps preserve the feet and is very important to wound healing.

The tingling is part of Nueropathy w/ loss of nerve sensation. Numbness can prevent you from feeling things that may be injuring your foot if you don't see it. Hot pavement, a piece of glass, of anything. It is very important to keep feet checked. A loss of limb can be a result in an infection or ulcer that can not be healed. Also, when the blood supply is not able to get to that extremity. To prevent infections in the feet  have a fot dr. cut nails etc...
