Hello,
My father is in dialysis since last 5 months. His blood pressure drops down after dialysis and becomes unconsious - it happened so many times. Once he gets up from the bed the pressure just goes down and down and down and he collpases. Anybody any diea? and now it also happpens during the dialysis - and they give him dextrose IV and he comes back.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards, Deependra

Sounds like they may be taking off too much fluid during the treatments. Talk to his neph and get it adjusted.

Cloud is absolutely right. I had problems with low blood pressure and fainting when I first started dialysis, my neph adjusted by dry weight up and the problems ended. Subsequently as I lost weight and they dropped my dry weight, but carefully so as not to take too much water off.

Thanks Cloud and Bub,
my father's heart functions 40% - so doc is assuming it is due to the heart problem. Most of the time dry weight adjustment solves the problem yet angiography/plasty is suggested.

I hope raising his dry weight helps his situation. My bp would drop and I would still have fluid on. Sometimes a longer session helps by giving more time for fluid to shift from the tissue to the blood stream. Now I'm on Nocturnal which gives me 8 hours to get the fluid off "slowly".

We do not have nocturnal here. Doctors decreased his time to 3 hours now, says my dad can not tolerate longer session. The usual duration is 3.5 hours in the center.

Low blood pressure can effect the ability of oxygen to be carried to brain. (his going unconscious) Do you know just how low it got? Like the others are saying it happens a lot after dialysis but that's an extreme case such as your father's. If he has heart problems that could definitely be a big factor. His heart may not be able to pump enough blood through his heart to maintain proper blood pressure. I hope this issue gets prompt attention. It must make him feel horrible.

I have the same problem. I have high B/P. I do not take my B/P meds on dialysis days. I go into D with a B/P of 200 or more and within the first 5 mins of D my pressure has dropped 20 points or more. Half way through treatment I was crashing. Pressure of 70 and below. I don't know if all centers use the same terminology or not but you might check with the nurse. My nurse tried me on "Profile 3" and that seemed to take care of most of my problem. I still drop points but not as drastically as before. Took 5 1/2 months of trial and error to get to this point. Good Luck

I do similar with my blood pressure. at dialysis. I get lower and lower pressure as the session goes on. The techs know to check with me before doing anything about it.
