Just a rant for the day!!!

So I was telling a co-worker about this site and saying I think it would be great if our patients knew about it. We agreed it would help some of them to talk to others and share stories. Well, my FA and her boss walked into the break room listened to our conversation and told us that it is not an appropriate web site to tell the patients about! I tried to describe the site as a place that dialysis patients and caregivers can talk and I was forbidden to tell my patients about it!!
 
This makes me soooo mad because as a tech I am finding this site beneficial to help me take better care of my patients and try to understand more. I don't know how yet but I will let the patients at my unit know about this site.

       Don't get yourself into trouble.  But, that said  I am sure some of your patients would like to know about this place.  It IS a great place for knowledge, humor, and just plain venting.  Also, your FA is one of Dan's donkeys.

Could you invite your FA to come here and check it out for herself?  You could tell her that we have an FA from Texas who contributes in valuable ways and we even have had a couple of doctors on here too.  I bet she'd learn tons about transplant too.  Could you print out some threads you've found useful and give them to her?  She sounds a tad controlling and "parental" of people, most of whom haven't been kids in a while, but hey we're a bit used to that too.  It's one more thing we just need to ignore.

I'm the FA from Texas that Monrein refers to...  I must say, when I found this site, I printed the page and passed it to ALL patients and staff.  It went into every new patinet bag, with info from me to find the site.  Valualbe info and support.  For both patients and myself...

Maybe the FA was just relating to the name and thinking it sounded too negative? Or maybe reacting to the whole "it's on the internet" thing that a lot of people can have issues with - perhaps due to the kinds of misinformation that can spread on some internet sites (not here!!) and the like. Maybe a general fear that recommending a specific site to the clients might be seen as some kind of bias or something, and if it backfired in some way that they could be held responsible in some way (I don't know how, just trying to think the way some people might).

Sad really but it's not worth getting in trouble over.

Of course you could also go to work in an IHD top, or wear a badge when the FA isn't around.. if someone asks about it... voila!!!

I could see why the corporate types might not like a website like this.  They probably don't understand the name.  They love dialysis it is how they make their money.

That and we circumvent their supposed authority on all matters dialysis.  There are some posts on here that probably aren't worth reading and might do someone harm, but overall I think this place is a great way to find out what others are doing and get encouragement.
