Yesterday I had fistulaplasty and the surgeon put a stent in, has anyone had a stent put in and how has your outcome been.

I had three done at different times, on a goretex graft.  I thank Dr. A for keeping my graft up and running well the nearly 4 years of D I had before my transplant. The surgeon who put the graft in swore it would never last that long, but between ballooning and stents, it kept on chugging.

(I was scheduled for another fistulagram the day I had my transplant.  It was already narrowing when I I got the transplant, and clotted off for good several days after.  I was kind of annoyed that they hadn't made any effort to save it, but with all the complications, I can see why it wasn't a huge priority for them at the time.)

The only part I didn't like about the stents was the placement of the last one.  It was very close to where the upper needle was placed.  Every once in a while, the needle tip hit metal while being centered- not the best feeling in the world!

I had a stent put in along with my graft. 5 months later it clotted off so now we are trying a balloon, so far so good!

Is it stent or stint?

Anyway, I wish the surgeon WOULD put a stint in because I'm tired of all the fistulagrams and angioplasties I have to go through.  Just stint it and keep it open.  He says he does not like doing stints because then there is nothing else you can do.  But, on my left side they put off doing stints and not they can't do anything because everything is stnosised or shut.

My graft has three stents in it. It is a little over eight years old. It feels like they are sticking through chicken wire when they stick it.

My fistula is in my upper arm and the stent is up close to my shoulder I wont be putting my needles there.  My pressures are better now.

Had fistulagram last week, the Dr said that when they use stents they will grow shut at both ends. He mentioned that the stents are not like the ones used for the heart that are medicated.

I have had a stent in my heart since 1997.  Glad to know it won't close up.

My wife has 4 of them in the same fistula.  The last two they put in didn't make any difference.  One of them is near her arm pit.  I can feel them. 

Haven't been to the airport with them yet.  I wonder if they would set off the metal detector. 

They told us we couldn't do button holes because we stick through them. 

The surgery was pretty routine.  We were only at the hospital 3 or 4 hours both times.  They did fistulagrams during the surgery to see where and how they were positioning the stents.  The incision was about a half inch long and held with one big stitch.  We removed the stitch about a week later.

Well I had another fistulagram on 5/13 the surgeon needed to put another stent in but with the infection on my arm he couldnt so I will be having another one probably in another month or two.  No more buttonholes using sharps they dont hurt as bad as the blunts, and no more emla cream.

A stenosus, he ballooned before and after the stent he put in a couple of months ago, I gave up on buttonholes they hurt to much and with the sharps I dont need the emla, plus I dont want another infection.
