I am back from Pittsburg. Met the team and saw the hospital. They took 16 vials of blood and said the results would be in two weeks. They saw no reason not to put me on the list, just have to find out what flavor kidney I will need. They do not think I qualify for a pancreas so that is on the back burner for now. So, after running all the way out there and back in two days I still am not on the list.

This is the time where you need patience. There is alot invovled for transplant team to do ,  have to make sure everything is right. You are one step closer to getting a kidney! The journey has begun........I wish only the best for you.

How did your wife handle being on a plane ?  The part I don't like is the take-off. Seems to just take my breathe away.

How far are you from your transplant center? Wait did we chat on here one evening with a few other people? Are you from Maine?

Take a patience pill and call the coordinator in a week. Good luck!

Bill- I had a live donor and I still was in a hurry up and wait mode for about nine months (yeah, almost like having a baby).  Test, tests and more tests.

Hang in there - and start calling the coordinator on a weekly basis to get updates.

How come the long wait?  The time I spent waiting was getting all the tests completed for me and my donor.

They took 16 vials of blood again and are doing the final tests to get the right kidney match for me. I do not know why it has taken them so long to get all the information they need. I have been with the VA for 16 years for all my treatments, I would have thought they had all the info they need.

Silly boy - There is never enough information - just never enough.  My biggest problem with the 16 vials of blood is that I am very "bad stick" and getting that many vials is a challenge only for the very experienced.  ha ha.  Fortunately I think I only had produce the 16 tubes maybe a total of 3 times.
Are you on the waiting list yet?

As soon as the test results come back they will know what flavor kidney I need and will add me to the list.
