In da House.

« on: October 26, 2009, 08:24:27 AM »

I had a really shit day last tuesday , so much so ,i was considering stopping hemo ! I've been having real problems with my neck and nothing was helping. So i went to dialysis on tues in real pain and said i probably couldnt do 4 hours but i would stick it out for as long as i could. Anyway about half hour after they hooked me up my neck went into spasm, i cant describe the pain , which also went into my head , it was so bad , i was throwing up with the pain. Do you know what they did ? handed me a sick bowl and stayed out the way , no one came near me for over an hour. Then one of the nurses decided to kick me while i was down. I was crying in agony and she came over to do war ! My bp for a while on hemo has been going up and ive been coming off with a really high bp 215/120 or more. Well because i was so stressed on tues and in so much agony my diastolic was 140 !! :o and what did she do ? told me there was no way i could be taking my bp meds (i take them every day) but she said no way . I said i wasnt a liar , but she didnt believe me and insisted that i brought them in so she could see me take them ! WTF ? (sorry) I told her she had better go away ,as i wasnt even going to get into this right now. So they left me another 2 hours in agony , with no one coming near me , till i shouted out for the Sister and insisted that she take me off , despite her giving me every excuse under the sun not to. So finally she said she would just finish some paper work then take me off (her paperwork was a Secret Santa list , i know because she was asking all the staff if they wanted to be in on it !) Anyway i got home , in agony , drained and very very upset. I called my GP and got an emergency appt , she said my neck was very restricted and gave me a muscle relaxant and has made a request for me to see a specialist. The tablets are helping a bit , till i can get to see the specialist but that can take up to 6 weeks !
Anyway i went back in to hemo on thursday , with much debate, and the other Sister was on duty. I told her briefly about being called a liar over my bp meds and her solution was to put my on a profile as opposed to the Loop. It seems i am very quick to refill. Anyway the profile was brilliant , my bp was way down and i feel fantastic . Just one thing now ...wait till i see the other sister and nurse, i am not going to be rude , but i am going to make sure that the whole unit hears i am not a liar as proved by putting me on a profile and im going to insist i stay on it !!! Anyway im back , fighting fit , and ready to take em all on !!! :rofl; :2thumbsup;

So sorry you had to go through all that! Pardon my ignorance but what is profile and loop? I just started hemo and my bp is high at home around 170/110 even though I drink very little and take my bp meds. One thing thats wierd is right after dialysis I hear a slight ringing in my ears and a salty taste in my mouth. They give me too much saline or what? I dunno. Anyway I hope the specialist can fix your neck and you start to feel better soon!

it was seriously a shitty thing for her to do to accuse you of not taking your meds while you were in pain. wheres the compassion with some of these people?

Kickstart  I can't believe how bad you were treated, can't you report them, I would.  I do hope your neck gets better soon and you don't have to meet up with that grumpy nurse again.  What part of the UK do you live? I'll make sure when John goes on diaysis he won't go there.

I hope your neck continues to feel better. You seem like a strong women,I wish I had your strength. I have also been accused of not taking my blood pressure meds. I never miss a pill,my pressure goes up when I am stressed regardless of my medicine.

So sorry to hear about all the problems that you are having with your unit, the way that they are treating you is ridiculous. I am glad to hear that you are going to say something, let them have it!  Glad you are feeling better now!

It amazes me how badly some people are treated/spoken to.  Hope your neck gets sorted soon.  *hugs*
