My dear daughter

« on: October 22, 2009, 08:18:32 PM »

I was on 3 hours 15 untill last treatment.  They told me that I could go down to 3 hours.  I know what you all have told me, but I couldn't turn it down.

You've written about not having energy, feeling wiped out on dialysis days - that sounds like a reason to increase your time not cut fifteen minutes. You should be feeling better. There is good data to suggest that the more dialysis you get the better the chance for a successful transplant.successful. I think cutting your time is a step in the wrong direction.

I reach a Kt/V of 1.3 in just 2 hours and 45 minutes.
But my treatment is completed at 4 hours and 30 minutes.

More hemodialysis is better, no doubt about it.
Longer treatment time will be better for you and your family.

[ cynics hat on ]

One wonders if the reduction in time is supposedly for the patients benefit, or that of the dialysis center

That is a great way to put it Zach. I've not seen it said that way - I'm going to use that

Right now(today) the machine was running at 350. Monday ,they will start using a larger needle and can increase the machine speed (numbers of cycles). This will let me off machine 15 mins earlier. and I will get a better cleaning . Right now my clearance nubers are higher than the mininum acceptable . Blood work is great so to get off 15 mins won't hurt one bit.

I know that in the past I said that I wasn't feeling well but, I have been feeling great the past few weeks.  They said that my ktv was 2.0 which I could hardly believe.
