PD and diabetes

Asked this question in another thread but only got one response (thank you restorer) so I thought I would start a new thread just on this one question. As the fluid you input is partly comprised of dextrose (sugar) does that preclude diabetics from using PD? Are there any diabetics in our community that are on PD?

Murf,
I am not diabetic, but i THINK not sure that there is a specail solution that is used for diabetics. I want to say extranel (sp) but again im not 100% sure.

My friend is diabetic and she used Extraneal from the beginning. It is starch based, rather than sugar based. I tried it (even though I'm not diabetic, just trying to reduce calories), and it gave me the nastiest rash and then I peeled, just like a sunburn!

Hi Murf...I'm diabetic but I do Hemo. My Neph really pushed for PD. I questioned him about the calories and what it would do to my BS and the wight gain. He said I would be fine I would just have to keep my BS in total control by testing more often well I already stick my fingers 5 times a day. Hemo has had no effect on my BS and I feel good so for me I made the right choice.
