Probably due to excessive perspiration in the hot summer weather, I seem to be getting a boil (a.k.a. furuncle, a.k.a. skin abscess) on my chest, perhaps a couple inches from the catheter site.

I'm concerned about having a bacterial skin infection that close to the catheter site.  I won't be seeing my physician till this coming Tuesday at the earliest.  Should I phone his office and ask for a prescription for an antibiotic, or can this wait until then?

If it were me, I certainly would call my Dr. Right away. Better to be safe than sorry. Let us know what is going on with you.

I agree. It is best to err on the side of caution. The stakes are too high.

I'd second the advice from the other posters... Any bacteria in that area's not to be given houseroom...

Hope it heals quickly for you....

I seem to have something similar on the exit site for my PD catheter, right next to the catheter. It feels liquid-filled like a boil or blister, but I think the skin on it is still fairly thick. It doesn't look like it's coming to a head yet. I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow, so I'll ask him about it.
