So, My Husband, got a Bacterial Infection in His Lungs, last Winter and was Hospitalized for Five Weeks. They had to place a Catheter , in His Chest ( Two Six Inch Long, Plastic Tubes, that hung out of His Chest ) they used this, to give Him, 24/7 Antibiotics. Forward, Six Months, to Two Weeks Ago. After having been on Antibiotics for Six Months, they decide it was safe to stop them and take the Catheter, out. ( They left it in, in case the Infection, Reversed itself )
He goes to the Doctor and waits for Two Hours and the Doctor comes in and Says, " I can do this one of Two Ways, I can Numb the Area or just Yank it out " ( this has been in for Six Months and has a lot of Healed Scar Tissue around it)
Hubby says, " I have been here a long time, just Yank it " -------- He told me that about Five Seconds into this, He knew He had made a Big Mistake, Huge Mistake!!!!!!!!
He did say, that the Doctor, made Him feel better, afterward, by Saying " Your more of a Man, then I am!"
Ya just gotta Laugh, about some of this Stuff, cause You can't Cry, Everyday. He Laughed too------but not right away!

Oh Lord! I feel for him. I had big tubes in for my lungs last year, but not for that long so removing them was only a little bit uncomfortable! He must be soooo relieved to have them out though. Thinking of you both.

Brings back some pretty awful memories of having two chest tubes pulled out following my open heart surgery. My surgeon was wonderful though, told me it was going to hurt but had a huge needle of Demerol ready and waiting to inject immediately afterwards. Sent me right into La-La land....loved it! It hurt like the dickens but I had to appreciate his honesty. Hopefully they gave your hubby something for the pain following that?

I had my permacath for about a year, and the surgeon took it out right in his office. he numbed the area and cut, then pulled. i didn't feel the cut, or the stitches but when he yanked the tubes out, I though he was yanking out my damn lungs!

Ouch! That must have hurt. I probably would have passed out. It's good to know he is doing better now and doesn't need those antibiotics anymore. Hope it stays that way.

Reminds me of the time I broke my wrist. By the time I saw the doctor it had started to knit, so he said he would have to rebreak it. He asked if I wanted Lidocaine. I said try it without. He yanked and I screamed about 3 times and then it was done. Afterward he said most grown men would have passed out by now! I told him it was an "interesting experience."
