Thin Skin

My husband has very thin skin.  If he just bumps into something like a door jam his skin tears and bleeds.  Since he is diabetic it takes forever to heal.   Is this something related to the KD?  Any thoughts or input is appreciated

I think I have thin skin on the back of my hands and fingers. Any little scrape or bump and I end up tearing a piece of skin off. Usually it's not enough to bleed right away, but it oozes clear liquid for a while, then either crusts over yello after a couple days or I finally bang it again hard enough to make it bleed. It's pretty annoying because it gets rubbed every time I reach into my pockets; and then I regret it every night and morning when I use the alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Boy, I wish I had an answer to that one. My forearms if I itch them with my fingernails have tracks of broken capillaries, but nowhere else. Please be sure to let us know if you find the positive cause. Good luck.

John also has thin skin,  if he knocks himself it will come up in a big blood blister, if it is bad enough to break the skin the the blood just spurts out. He has asked the Renal clinic and showed them his arms as they are covered in blood just under the skin, and they said it is nothing to do with kidney's. We asked our district nurse who was coming in to see to John and she said it was something to do with being on steroids but we said John is not on steroids, then she saw his inhaler sitting beside the bed and she said that puffer contains steroids.  So John tried not using it for  about 3 months and sure enough his arms cleared up.  But now because of his bad chest he had to start using it again and his arms are now full of blood bruising. I also have paper skin.  I constantly have cuts and blood bruises on my hands.  Was also told it wasn't anything to do with the kidneys/dialysis.  Funny how there so many of us with it?  I do take steroids though, so who knows.  It's blinking annoying I know that.  Just when I think I'm going to have scar free hands, I touch a cupboard or something and there I go again.

Prednisone is a major culprit with regard to thin skin and blood bruising.

I have what I refer to as fragile skin.  I bruise easily, and drawing blood is a nightmare, as I also have thin, rolling veins.  I'm not sure if it all came with the kidney disease or not.

Prednisone also causes thinning of the blood vessels, and both thin skin and a delicate vascular system are  side effects of normal aging.

The heparin given during dialysis treatments can be a cause. Have the center reevaluate the dosage.

Sorry to be a bit thick but what is Prednisone?
 
 John also has now got thin veins in his left arm they have so much trouble taking blood that last time they took it from his hand.  But the right arm with the fistula they veins are nearly popping out of his wrist.

Prednisone inhibits the action of your immune system. For kidneys, a number of problems are related to the immune system. It works well for some people, but others find it a problem.

For me it was one of the two most effective medicines I've ever taken. I had ulcerative colitis (an auto immune disease) for over a year; my weight fell from 245lb to 190lb. Just one month's course of prednisone cured me. That was two years ago. For me, it was a life saver.
