Suggestion for introductions

Moderators,

Sometimes in the "Introduce Yourself"section, conversations are started.  Instead of stopping these threads to begin new ones, can they be moved into a new section to continue a thought?  I think it would make new members feel more welcome than a "Please read the rules" post.

but if they were moved then when we see a new name we don't know and go into the intro section to find that name to see who they are we wouldn't find that name

Can threads be split? I know not all threads have this ability but if this one does that would be a great idea to split it where it goes off topic to a new thread!

It would probably be too formal, but you could do a small questionnaire for your introduction page. Like  a form with pertinent questions only then be directed to the proper sections, after explaining how to register properly, but I personally don't like the idea.
I like it the way it is now so people get comfortable, if they can type and ask anything they want. Just my  worth trying to help keep things more personal than mechanical.

When people register there is a basic form:  Name, email, gender, where you are from etc...  People just don't fill it out. 

If an intro starts getting OFF topic, we can split it and move the split to where it belongs.  We will try and watch for that.

It's very simple and there is no need to split any topics or change anything. When a new members joins they go to the "Introduce Yourself" section and simply introduce themselves. And the other members welcome them, that is all. If the new member asks questions a member or a mod will kindly ask them to create a new topic in the correct section. The members should not continue the problem by replying and continuing the conversation, just welcome the member and that it is all. If members continue a conversation in an "Introduce Yourself" section the thread will be locked.

I think a lot of people reply to a thread they are watching and don't notice that it is in an intro section. They just reply to what they see is there.

That's true, however it just takes a second to find out, and if you see a bunch of welcomes in a thread, then most likely it's an "Introduce Yourself" thread. That is why I personally never use the "Show unread posts since last visit." link I just go to the home page and look at the "Red" or "White" kidneys and that will show me new posts and in what section much easier.

Ya guess it is a bad habit I have gotten into from gaming forums It was always common place to click the "Show unread posts since last visit" link!

Why?  Clicking on the show last unread posts is what I do.  This way, I get the entire list of threads and can pick and choose the ones I want to see from a neat and tidy list.

And I agree with Epoman on the intros.  Post your welcome massages and lets go in to the forums and take the conversations to the floor.
