Since going on dialysis the first day they told me was to avoid things with high salt such as ham, so for about a year i havent had ham till this day, so i am curious is it actually that bad to have ham even with little salt? the smell gives me a crave on! but i keep pushing away. What if i drink alot of water?

Yup, you can have it if you really want it.  Yes, it will make you thirsty.  Best thing to do is plan for it - if you know you are going to have it on Sunday, be extra careful with fluid the day before, and then if you need a bit extra water to wash it down, you can have it.  A small serving of most things, no matter how un-renal-friendly, can be worked into your diet.

Ham is so bad, Leroy Brown was  afraid of his sandwich.

Ham is so bad Michael Jackson did a follow up Song called "Ham"

Ham will not only kill you, it will kick your dog and make your children cry.

Original title of the Tom petty song was "Yer so Ham" but they changed it to make it less frightening.

Depends on what  you consider a little salt. :)

 3 ounce serving                                 Na                           K                           PO4

Country Ham                                   2292mg                    433mg                        270mg

Cured Ham extra lean 5%fat              1023mg                    244mg                        166mg

Cured Ham lean 11%fat                    1276mg                    348mg                        239mg

Just out of curiosity, I googled for "Low Salt Ham," and found one brand, Silver Star Meats, whose lower-sodium ham is claimed to have about 800 mg sodium per 3 ounce serving.  That's bad enough, but at least it's lower than those other hams that BigSky posted about.

Most hams are also processed with phosphates, which is the other problem. Take extra binders.

I love that, a crave on. haha.  How fun.  But yeah I would think if you didn't eat it all the time and watched how much you ate you are good.

Moderation is key.

Also may be best not to buy processed ham.  Then again to cook a ham and eat 3oz isnt worth it either.
