Dad is due to be admitted today for his op tomorrow - but we have phoned (as instructed) and there are NO beds today - they will try to find one but it is looking unlikely. What on earth is the point of booking him a theater space and not booking a bed? I know the NHS is free, I know all it's good points but my goodness it has it's bad points too. I wish the people 'in charge' could see the tears running down Dad's face as he waits hoping the phone will ring to say they have found a bed. Of course the surgeon isn't on duty today so there is no-one I can get hold of to try to sort this mess. Grrrrrrrr

Thanks Sandy & Joe Paul, your thoughts and prayers must have worked, a bed has been found, we are so pleased. Now we have to pray the operation goes ahead tomorrow and his leg can be saved. I am passing all your kind wishes on to Dad as he is very scared and low at the moment. Bless you all for your kindness. Rose xxx

thank you all, it means a lot to have this level of support. Today's the day but Dad isn't due in to surgery until late afternoon/early evening (it's 6.30 a.m. now) so it will be a long day. I'll update when I can. Love you all, more than I love this bunny. Rose xx

Bless you for thinking of us. We have just had a call to say Dad is being prepared for theatre, we pray that the surgeon will be able to do a bypass, please join us in prayer or positive vibes if you can. Thank you all I'm crying and I type this, I don't know why I think it's just knowing that caring people the other side of the ocean are thinking of us, thank you so so much. xx

Unfortunately we are back to square one. They took Dad to theatre but found his veins are too bad and they can't do anything. They are sending a pain doctor to see him but he can't live the rest of his life on painkillers so I don't know what will happen. We are devastated. I don't know why they don't amputate the toe at least, but there is no blood flow in the whole leg so maybe he will have to lose that at some other stage. It's all a worry and we are so far from the hospital. We will go over tomorrow and see what we can find out.
Thank you for all your support. Rose xx

Rose - I'm so sorry to hear this bad news. I was really hoping there would be a resolution for your Dad today. You will probably have to be aggressive with the Docs - I know you have it in you to fight whatever fight there needs to be and I know you have the energy to be a good advocate for your Dad. Continued good energy heading your way. Sandyb

Thanks Sandy. We had our hopes up once he was actually in the operating theatre but it's not to be. I will try to talk to someone tomorrow and see what alternatives there are. Trying to stay positive but feeling a bit shell shocked by all the ups and downs today

Dear Rose, I was in meetings all day today and had no chance to check IHD. I am crying now too over the thought that they can't do the surgery and knowing all the stress you are all going through. I am really, really sorry that I can't give you a hug, or be there to hold your hand, or to run and get you coffee, or anything real and tangible. I'm here on the other side of the ocean thinking of you and sending my love. I wish it could be more. XO Linda

Thank you all so much for the love and support. Sluff I'd wondered that too, I'm not sure why they didn't do something while he was in theatre, Obviously no one wants an amputation but it has to be better than the pain. The only thing is that his dialysis line goes into that thigh (he's had 4 different site, 2 chest and 2 leg because his veins are so bad a fistula wasn't possible) so maybe they need to move that first (although I'd have thought they could amputate the foot or lower leg anyway). Being so far from the hospital makes it hard to talk to anyone but I'm going over this afternoon and will try to get hold of someone who can explain it all, or find out who I need to see and make an appointment. It's so good to have this site back, thanks to everyone for their work yesterday, I missed you so much that I had to go over to Facebook Will let you know how things go

We talked to the Dr today and he apologised for not being able to do the operation and explained why. An apology wasn't necessary as we don't expect them to perform miracles, but it was nice to see that he understood how disappointed we are. They are trying stronger painkillers and if that does not work they are looking at a sympandectomy (which I understand means deadening/cutting the nerves). Dad was a little brighter today but just to add to his problems his dialysis line is playing up again and blocking so they will look at that tomorrow. Fingers crossed for continued pain relief and a quick resolution to the line issues. Thanks again for all the support it means so much

Rose, I'm just so saddened by all that your poor Dad is having to go through and I know that you and your Mum, by extension, are going through it all with him. I'm glad that the doctor could explain things and that he seemed understanding but pain is pain and it's awful when it's so darned chronic. If hugs and good wishes for better outcomes are helpful then you have masses of those coming your way, from me and from so many others here. Please tell your Dad how much we want him to get some relief.

Dad is now back home, he was discharged after dialysis this evening. It was a long journey back (over 2 hours) so he began to feel a little nauseous but was OK. He seems in reasonable spirits now and has enough painkillers to start a pharmacy! I hope he can tolerate them. He has to go back to clinic in 2 weeks when they will assess whether a sympathectomy (cutting/blocking of nerves) needs to be carried out. Of course this won't cure the foot or restore the circulation but at the moment if it relieves the pain it is the best we can hope for. Thank you all very much for your concerns, love, prayers and best wishes, they are very much appreciated by all 3 of us - more than you can know.
