My Dad has to have another operation!

Sorry to be asking for support yet again - but please may I ask for your thoughts and prayers to be with my Dad for a few seconds this coming week.
He has to go into hospital on Tuesday (IF there's a bed, we have to ring first thing to see). He has had nothing but hospitalisation this past 7 or 8 months with one thing and another and now has an ischaemic foot, we hope they can do a bypass as they did for his other leg in 2007 but it may mean amputation this time as his heart is in a poor condition to stand up to long surgery. He is beginning to get very depressed by it all and your support will lift him.
They will admit him on Tuesday (if bed available) and then carry out a series of tests with a view to operating by Friday. Of course his relatively low platelets are a concern, they are also concerned because he has heparin dependent antibodies, an aneurysm and badly blocked arteries around the heart. The scan of his leg onThursday showed no arterial flow from groin to ankle and no pulse in the ankle, he is in a lot of pain, so it is not looking good.
He will be in a hospital that is a 2 hour drive away, slightly further than the one he usually has to be admitted to. I am due to be made redundant at the end of the month, I now wish it was sooner as it will be a struggle trying to hold down my job and visit daily, but I can't afford to give up my job and miss the redundancy payout which I need to live off. I've worked there over 20 years and don't want to come away with nothing. But I'll cope with all that, just as long as Dad pulls through this and can have a bit of pain free life between the inevitable dialysis sessions and issues.
Thanks for your support in the past and in advance for the support I know we'll get now.
Love
Rose xx

This is such sad news Rose. I mean really, enough is enough. Your Dad has already been through so much. And you and your mom must be exhausted from all the worry. I hope that somehow you can focus on the fact that you still have this precious time together.

We had to call the hospital this morning to see if there is a bed. They have just called us back (it's noon here) and said there isn't one until Sunday!!
we have to ring then to make sure and if there is a bed Dad can go in and have his operation on Monday - that means almost another week for him in pain. We have no choice, there is no other hospital around that does vascular surgery plus dialysis, we are already having to travel nearly 2 hours to get to this one.
I'm angry at the system and I'm really upset for my poor Dad, as if he hasn't had enough now he has to suffer another week of pain because whatever he takes either makes him vomit or doesn't relieve the pain much. It's a lot of stress for Mum too, she's 79 this year and it is all beginning to take it's toll on her too.
Thanks for your continued support, I will let you know how things go.

Hang in there, a week is a long time when you are in pain but hopefully ths is the last of the wating. It"s so easy to wait here, because it's not me I guess. However I do hope it goes by fast and your Dad can get some relief.

Rose,
Your Dad and the whole of your family will be in our novena today for our Mother of Perpetual Help. It's not easy but prayers could get you a lot of strength. I will pray for your Dad to be out of pain until he recovers.

Hi Rose my thoughts and prayers are with you, and your Mum and Dad. This waiting game is shocking in this day and age I went through it all with John. The only time he gets anything done is when he has been taken off in emergency.
I understand your worry about your redundancy as both my daughters are facing it also, one on the 3rd April the other in November. I had to face redundancy 3 times in my working life, makes you feel like working for your self, invent something disposable that's what my sister told me, after 15 years I'm still thinking.
I hope the bed will be available on Sunday and hope he will have his Op. on Monday and pray he will be out of pain soon. Yvonne

Thanks Yvonne, I hope all is still going well with John and that you are feeling more 'yourself' now. If you ever think of that disposable item let me know and we can set up business together

I, too, would be angry and upset by this turn of events. Surely there must be something they can give you dad to relieve his pain that will not make him sick. Are the nurses still coming to the house? Can they be of any assistance on this issue?

Dear Rose - I just now am seeing your post. I'm so sorry to hear this news about your Dad. Your family has had more than their share of issues. I do know how your Dad feels about the pain meds - I was on a host of them last winter and they mostly just make me throw up, I preferred the pain to having pain and throwing up. Gosh darn it all - I wish he had better luck with them.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as your struggle through this time.
Take care - Big hugs

You are such great people, thank you for your concerns.
The nurses come once a month and are due tomorrow, but I don't hold out much hope, they never seem to do anything - however Karol PM'd me and did suggest suppositories for pain (which I hadn't heard of) so I will see what they say about those.
We had a letter today confirming that they will admit Dad on Sunday and operate Monday (although it says to ring on Sunday to check a bed is available before going in!) so I'm relatively hopeful that they will stick to that.
I really appreciate your caring thoughts, prayers and good wishes so much and I know Mum & Dad do too, they find it hard to grasp what my other family (IHD) is all about as they are totally computer illiterate
- but they certainly know you are a bunch of fantastic people.

The nurses didn't show up, but they're not much use when they do so what the heck! Dad says he will cope until Sunday now.
Anyway I just wanted to say that as the site may be down over the weekend would you please try to find time to remember Dad (Bill) in your thoughts, prayers, good vibes etc. He is still due to go into hospital on Sunday for an operation on Monday and we really hope and pray that they are able to save his leg, at 80 and with all his other health problems he (and Mum) will find it very difficult to cope otherwise.
Thank you my dear friends for all your love and support
I will let you kow how things go.

Rose - I will certainly keep you and your dad in my thoughts and prayers all weekend. I'm continuing to send you the great healing energy also - and of course all the warm fuzzies you need.
You take care now - and let us know when you can about your dad's operation.
Big hugs
