I have noticed that when I wash my hair, quite a bit of hair falls out.   I have never noticed this before and the only thing that has changed is that I am now using my graft and I am wondering could that have anything to do with it since I seem to be getting better treatment?  I would have thought it would have been the opposite tho..........I could see losing hair before I was diagnosed and feeling sick and all and not being treated for the kidney failure.  Has anyone else experienced losing hair once on dialysis or before you got diagnosed?   I appreciate any thoughts on this.  Also, I did do a search on this topic and did not find anything but I don't know if I "searched" right.  Also, one more question, if you have experienced this, how was it treated and did it get better?   Thanks again!

I don't know if I'm losing hair when I wash it, but man oh man, does it ever come out when I comb it.  It's my understanding that hair is protein and since protein is a very tiny molecule, it is removed constantly by dialysis.  Maybe it will help if you push protein?

FINALLY someone replies!    :bandance; I was wondering if anyone was going to reply after seeing so many "views" and no replies!    :rofl;   Anyway, thanks to you two for your replies.........yeah, protein may be the factor, peleroja.............don't know for sure.  I will see what my last protein level was if I happen to see the dietician tomorrow, thanks!

Rerun, I would not *think* it would be stress because since I have moved from AL to TN, I have been more at peace than I have been in a LONG time.   However, that is not to say, that I don't still get depressed from time to time but stressed, nah, not really but I do thank you for your input.

Maybe if you looked in the forums you would see there are three entire threads on this subject and it has been discussed before! Instead of hollering we do not reply to your thread!

I just typed in the word Hair into the search and look what I found.   Or use Kidneyoogle.com and look it up!

Thank You KK, for your *kindness* but if you would have read my first post, you would have seen where I "said" I did try and do a search but figured I was not doing it right as nothing came up for me.   So, anyways, thanks again for being so *kind* and telling me how to do a search................Also, when I said, someone FINALLY replied, I was kidding as I did put the "banddance" pic.

You know sarcasm with me really does not work, because I can be really sarcastic as needed.  :sarcasm;

  However I am not going to fight with a member.  I just wanted you to know there were answers out there. Besides this is posted in the wrong area anyway. I am sure a mod or admin will be moving it shortly. Absolutely no dialysis related topics in off-topic area. It is intended to give the members a break from dialysis concerns when they are on the boards.

Love and kisses!

 It's my understanding that hair is protein and since protein is a very tiny molecule, it is removed constantly by dialysis.

Actually, protein is a very large molecule, and not much is dialyzed out during hemodialysis --but more is lost during peritoneal dialysis.
Amino Acids, on the other hand, which combine to make protein, are smaller molecules and easily dialyzed out during hemodialysis.

I felt you were being sarcastic to me; therefore, I was being just as sarcastic as you were to me, KK.   I would have thought, if you would have read my first post where I said I did do a search, there would not been any reason for you to yell at me.  (using your exclamation points)   So, because you did not read where I said that I did do a search you come back and get sarcastic with me/yell?  Thanks also for the lesson learned in posting in the wrong place (making a mistake)  :bow; Oh well, sleep well, KK.

Girls, girls, girls.....enough, enough!!  Please kiss and make up. :cuddle;  I think I have put this in another thread somewhere.  My search skills leave a lot to be desired but I lost a lot of my hair over the past 12 months.  I am no longer a bleached blonde with long hair but short and black because of the loss.  My hair has thickened up with a mixture of beer and eggs.  A naturopath put me onto it and you mix it into a paste with shampoo and it actually stops the hair from falling out.  Disgusting I know but vanity does come at a price!! xx

Sorry darling I haven't been back to you.  Been in hospital.  OK.  Get a cup, mix in two eggs, half a can of beer and make a paste with some shampoo.  You might need to use quite a bit of shampoo to get a paste going but leave it in for 2-3 minutes then wash it out. Hope it helps!!! xx

I have never heard of the beer, egg, and shampoo mix. I might have to try this! I lost a bunch of hair on dialysis and it really didn't grow back like before dialysis. Thanks for the tip!

Think I am going to feel a bit off now until I start dialysis next week.  But not too bad.  I did my "paste" yesterday and I always feel better for it.  My hair is very short now but it always looks a bit healthier and not so dry either after I do it but when you are feeling a bit nauseated, it doesn't smell the best.  I literally put a peg on my nose while I am putting it in and then I pup glad wrap around it for five minutes before I wash it out.  It should work into a bit of a lather as well.  Good luck!  Let me know how you go. xx

My hair has always been thin, but got much thinner as soon as I started dialysis.  It's been 2 years, and has not gotten any better.
