I'm sure gonna from now on.  I bought some lemon pepper at the 99 cent store.  Seemed innocuous enough, picture of a couple of lemon slices and peppercorns.  Tonight I sprinkled it generously on my broccoli.  Wow, I thought, this sure tastes salty.  Sure enough, the very first ingredient listed on my lemon pepper was salt.  Double whammy, a few ingredients later good old MSG was also listed.  Lemon was among the last 3 ingredients, and pepper wasn't even listed.  Guess it was listed under "spices."  When did spices get so complicated?

Excellent catch!

It seems more likely that when you buy a "mixed seasoning," you'll find salt in it.  Pure spices as less likely.

Ever vigilance!

That is why it is recommended that you use Mrs. Dash seasonings if you are on a low or no salt diet.  Her spices have no salt whatsoever.

I used to use Mrs. Dash or Spike, and all my food tasted like Mrs. Dash or Spike.  I like the Table Tasty Salt because the food tastes like it should, not like Table Tasty Salt.  It just never occurred to me that lemon pepper would contain salt (not to mention about 16 other ingredients).  It now resides at the bottom of my trash can.  As you say, ever vigilant!

I have triumphed!  I found a salt free lemon pepper at a place called Sprouts.  It's manufactured by The Spice Hunter.  Like Tim Allen says in Galaxy Quest, "Never give up, never surrender!"
