I guess this explains why I had to have Hep vaccine when I started dialysis.  Jeeze! Glad I started the series!

First off Wally your main Pic is awesome Im totally addicted to the Java  :P My mom and I started with DaVita and to be honest they were not that great. There was no personal care we just felt like cattle :( just waiting to plugged inn :( we switched facilities and I can't tell you how much better it is they are thorough and they really cater to you. The next time you visit NY go to IHS Queens Dialysis at South Flushing they will not only work around your schedule but they are sooo thorough on regulations and protection of the patients.

Unfortunately, that vaccine is only for Hep B.  There is currently no vaccine for Hep C, just precautions.

Is a person with hep C still elligible for transplant?   and aren't hep C patients pushed into the isolation room where all social communication cease's to exist??

I don't know the answer to your question, Bailey, but I had to go for a hepatitis test a few weeks back.  Neph. said that I had to have it before starting dialysis.  It made sense to me, as I would want to know if someone was positive if I were a dialysis nurse.   I'll be going to a Fresenius clinic when I start.

Did your letter from NYC state there was a possibility that you contracted hepatitis while visiting the NYC clinic due to poor clinic conditions or stupid dialyis nurses or something?  That's scary!  Good Luck!   :cuddle;

No isolation, just a minimum distance from other patients (8 ft.). Some transplant centers exclude HCV patients and some don't.

Len had one lab test come back positive for Hepatitis and I told the doctor if he had it, they gave it to him. They very quickly re-tested him and it came back negative. This just makes me sick.  :puke;

kellyt; The letter was from the department of health or something, not the clinic itself and stated that everybody from 2004 get tested for hep and HIV because of poor infection control, if you Google Life Care Dialysis in New York City all of the information comes up and I can imagine that everyone that went there for any length of time short or long received a package in the mail from state in english then spanish.  It was a very busy clinic.

How very frightening.  I'm hoping that it turns out to be only a scare and a precaution for you.  As if we don't have enough to worry and be vigilant about.
