As of Wednesday, November 2, 2016, I have been on hemodialysis for 18 years.  I must be nuts or something.
I celebrated with my usual Costco cake brought in to share with patients and staff.  They are amazed I am still plugging away each and every dialysis day.
 These years just chug along.

This year has been good.  Time spent with family has been good.  A grand daughter in February had added a lot of joy to life.

I swear if one more person asks me if I have had a transplant or am on the transplant list, I am going to lose my mind! 
It is like dialysis cannot be enough and it is going to have to be enough for me. 

So here is to 18 years of life and dialysis.  :wine; :wine;  :bandance; :bandance;

(My dialysis is old enough to vote, so I am taking it with me to vote next week. LOL)

Congratulations!  People like you are one of the best things about the forum allowing us to see that dialysis can be a long term solution. (Even if we still choose the transplant route.)

Transplant July 2017 from out of state deceased donor, waited three weeks the creatine to fall into expected range, dialysis December 2013 - July 2017.

Well on dialysis I traveled a lot and posted about international trips in the Dialysis: Traveling Tips and Stories section.

Congratulations kitkatz and well done! You are a great inspiration to all of us and I remember thinking of you when I started with my own dialysis-treatment
because of your great example and the way you deal with it as a matter of fact!

That is so wonderful to hear..gives me hope since  I have only been on for 2 years.
I hope you go for many more to come...and yes i am way sick of people asking me about transplant.
It's not an option for me either and I am ok with that.
Just have to make the best of it and live your life the best you can.
Great news about your grand daughter :)

A true Gentleman never asks a Lady's age.   I don't expect many Ladies would tell, or would admit to their actual age anyway.  It doesn't matter.

What matters is the length of time that you have successfully completed your treatments.   Wow!    You deserve recognition for your determination to succeed, to not let your illness hold you back.

You go Girl, you earn it.   Keep on keeping on.

Husband had ESRD with Type I Diabetes -Insulin Dependent.
I was his care-partner for home hemodialysis using Nxstage December 2013-July 2016.
He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.

As a gentleman all I can say is it must have been tough to start at 3.  But seriously when I started dialysis 4 years ago I found looking at a life time of 3 times a week sessions difficult to deal,with.  Then on this site I read posts from people like your self who obviously found a way to deal with the stress and I began to read and look and I found it was doable.  But it not for the examples of people like yourself. I never would have thought the life I now lead was possible.  So a big thank you for all you do on this site .

Some days I find the bravest thing I can do it put my feet on the floor and get up every morning.

LOL   For too long I couldn't even put my foot on the floor, much less stand on it.   Dr's found this one inch bone spur under my heal.   Let's just say I've felt better.  And Dr wouldn't cut it off, says for the majority of patients it doesn't relieve the pain.  Sent me to get a special pair of shoes and incerts.  I was VERY skeptical.  And was AMAZED that it has worked.   I CAN stand up and walk again.    That's HUGE!

Now if I could just do something about this achy back!

LOL      That that doesn't kill us today makes us stronger?    Maybe, but it sure wears on the body.

If I drank anything other than water I would suggest a toast.  To all of us that manage to keep on keeping on!    Cheers!
