Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone may have answers to this FRUSTRATING TOPIC! My company is losing our health insurance which means I am losing it and everytime we go somewhere they say they will not insure me because of my transplant. I call and try and get quotes for myself and they say we won't touch you. What am I suppose to do? If they give us transplants why don't they help us keep them?! I am sorry but I am pissed right now, if they let me have this gift then why don't they want me to keep it! If anyone can help me with this anything will help. I live in Arizona if that helps.
Thanks everyone!

You may want to look into Arizona's High Risk Insurance Pool. It is state-run, not the same as the Federal one that is put in place until the ACA kicks in for us in 2014. I don't know what the specific rules of eligibility are, but I'm sure it's worth looking into. How long have you had your transplant?

And yes, I think it is ludricous the way we and all sick people get treated in this country. Those who say they are "pro-life", why does your care end once the life is no longer a fetus? This I will never understand (and yes, I know, I shouldn't make this political...)

I want to thank you both for helping me and giving me ideas. I have tried all of them I just got off the phone with the state of AZ and they told me I don't qualify if I want to keep Medicare (my secondary) I have had my transplant since 4/13/11. I was told by Medicare they would pick me up if I didn't work and that's not an option. This is starting to really take it's toll on me and my health, I would prefer to just curl in a ball and not ever leave my room. A part of me doesn't want to take my meds anymore because I don't see the point...if no one will help and I can't afford them then why. The one reason and MAJOR one I have not stopped is because my Uncle gave me this kidney so I can have my life back and I will not be selfish and just blow it off. I will take care of me until I can't and I will fight but I need help from somewhere. Why won't they help all of us if we are fighting to stay here? :sos;

Call the social worker at the transplant center and ask for help. You should be able to make Medicare primary and buy Part C and Part D. That will give you time to come up with another solution.

P.S. If you have trouble setting up your Medicare, go to your congessman's office. That helped me.
